The next phase of Grass is to distribute ownership back to its users. A step towards doing so is decentralizing the network's core infrastructure, allowing nodes to be accessed by multiple validators. Over the next few weeks Grass will be deploying contracts on Solana to power the network’s routers.
Right now, there are 12 million concurrent nodes connected to Grass. As we scale to 100 million and set our sights on reclaiming the world’s public data, our infrastructure needs to evolve appropriately.
Going forward, nodes will search and connect to the router with the lowest ping times and traffic will be distributed among all routers globally. Decentralized routers will reduce latency and increase network throughput. If a router goes offline, all affected nodes will search for the next best router to re-establish connectivity to the network. Reducing single points of failure is critical to building Grass into a network that can operate under all circumstances.
