What you are looking at is a 2005 GMC Canyon that came in for an AC issue. Right away I found the Schrader valve leaking Freon. I evacuated the system to replace both high and low side Schrader valves and came to find out it was full of refrigerant at 0.73 kilograms, which is full to specifications. The last shop told the owner the system was junk and needed everything replaced: compressor, condenser, and all. Want to know what the problem was? They unplugged the compressor clutch and said the system was cooked. I plugged the compressor back in, replaced the Schrader valves, evacuated and refilled it. It blows ice cold, and the low side was running at 30 psi on a 90-degree day. There are some very shady motherfuckers in Vegas, that’s what I have to say about that.

The depreciation only matters if you sell it. I believe that if you buy a new car right (w/o all the dealer markup) and keep it 10 years or longer, it's a good value. As far as being upside down, that depends on how much you need to finance, and what price point vehicle you are buying. Another option would be to find a 3 year old lease back.

I mean, you're insanely upside down from the moment you drive off a lot. Leasing can be better, but you're limited on miles. So now I have a choice. 1. Lease something new (I don't drive much so the miles don't really matter). 2. Buy used (2 years old, low miles, most of the depreciation is it already priced in). 3. Buy new (this is a hard no - depreciation is brutal). What should I do?
