On March 5th, 2026, a group of us staged out of the Childress parking lot—many of us longtime friends and experienced chasers who’ve worked together for years. It was a solid convoy, with good communication and awareness. At one point, an individual we didn’t know joined up around us. That’s usually not an issue—most of us are always willing to help newer chasers learn and grow. However, this situation became concerning. The individual, known as nr2firstalertweather appeared to be very new based on how he was interpreting storms and communicating what he was seeing. Misidentifying features like calling everything rotation or a wall cloud can create confusion and unnecessary risk—not just for yourself, but for others around you. We made multiple attempts to separate from him for safety reasons. On an active chase day—especially with others in our vehicles (including my mom riding along and learning)—it’s critical to maintain a controlled, safe environment. Despite that, he continued to follow our convoy. The constant use of green and white flashing lights was also distracting and added to the overall safety concern. This all came to a head near the Quail, Texas tornado, where he nearly got stuck on muddy roads. At that point, several of us made the decision to break off from the convoy entirely. This isn’t about calling someone out—it’s about safety and responsibility. Storm chasing is not something to take lightly. If you’re new: • Take time to learn storm structure before getting into high-risk setups • Don’t rely on following experienced chasers as your strategy • Respect space and situational awareness • Understand road conditions and escape routes • And most importantly—know your limits We all started somewhere, and the community is full of people willing to help—but there’s a time and place for learning. An active severe weather event is not the place to put yourself or others at risk. Stay safe out there.

On May 21st, 2024 I captured the early stages of both the Villisca-Carbon, IA EF3 (3rd picture) and the Greenfield, IA EF4 as they crossed US 34. Both of these tornadoes were rocketing NE at highway speeds which made them very difficult to keep up with. #IAwx

More Fort Ransom, this was the beginning of it. Handheld shot, got lucky with a close bolt that illuminated the funnel and dust cloud underneath very well!

I really hope this isn't for real. The suspension on that car will be destroyed by the added weight alone. A quick backyard fab job isn't going to keep you safe either. A 3/4-1 ton truck is the correct platform to use along with thick metal plates, proper design and flawless welds. With the trucks, you are able to beef up the suspension for the added weight and the engine (preferably diesel) will have the horse torque to move. This thing will be a death trap if they try to intercept the wrong tornado.

@Dylanwx03 Every masterpiece has its actual real hazard which should not be allowed to drive or go anywhere near an EF1+ tornado.

@oldscarf1stweek I'm still surprised that Marcus' car honestly survived that night (same with Marcus). I even got Sagerton in that fucking 4Runner too before it eventually died 😂

I don’t think more people should do this, this was already successfully done at Rolling Fork in 2023 by storm chasers

New Boston, Texas EF-3 was my first tornado that I’ve seen. November 4th, 2023 was also my first storm chase and it was truly a testament on whether or not I was going to continue storm chasing. The rest of history now.

What was your first tornado? #wxtwitter #QOTD Mine was 8/20/2022 in Central IL from an EXTREMELY weak tornado. Of course, I double tapped the record button, but I still managed to get a brief shot of the world's weakest tornado while hanging out the window blasting down the interstate. Post your photos and stories from your first tornado below!
