On the 4th of February there was a very special dinner held at the Chola Chess Academy in Chennai - all the players participating in the ongoing GM and IM Camps, and all the players participating in the GM Norm Tournament took part! The founders of Chola Chess, Mr. Vellayan Subbiah and Mrs. Kanika Subbiah also joined in, along with the wonderful chess couple who are powering Chess all across the world - GM RB Ramesh and WIM Aarthie Ramaswamy.
In this video, we show you footage from the dinner, an interview with Mr. Vellayan, and testimonials from some of the participants in the camp!

Grandmaster Koneru Humpy has done it - she is through to the finals of FIDE Women's World Cup 2025, and has booked her spot in the Women's Candidates Chess Tournament 2026! Humpy defeated Lei Tingjie in a nerve-wracking tiebreak encounter in the semifinals. The 15+10 Rapid tiebreaks match ended in a draw - and the 10+10 Rapid tiebreaks was also drawn. Humpy lost the first Rapid game, and hit back in the next one to force the 5+3 Blitz tiebreaks! This is where Humpy shone through - she won with both colors in the Blitz tiebreaks and closed the match, making her way into the finals! Huge congratulations to Koneru Humpy for making it to the finals and qualifying for the Candidates. It will be an All-Indian final as Humpy will take on Divya Deshmukh! My long time dream project will be formally launched tomorrow at Chennai. The launch of the project @CholaChess sponsored by the Cholamandalam group thanks to the kindness and big heart of @Vellayan_S and @KanikaSubbiah will be graced by the presence of Five- time World Champion and the legendary @vishy64theking Anand.
Alongside, the website cholachess.com will be launched as well so that the deserving players can directly register for the free monthly camps according to their ratings.
We have run the project on a pilot basis for the last 6 months. Already completed 36 camps, more than 150 students, more than 15 Grand Masters as students.
Thanks to @ChessbaseIndia and @chesscom_in for agreeing to live stream and cover the event.
There will be an exhibition match between @rpraggnachess @pawnof64squares @KarthikeyanM64 @Praneshchess which will be covered live from 3 pm IST onwards.
