Mitchell doesn’t care— he offered a handshake, his opponent didn’t want to handshake on the stage, and Mitchell went on with his day.
I think a really great move from Mitchell would have been shaking each of the opponents hands backstage without a camera being on them.
Maybe wasn’t thought of by Mitchell but I think that would have landed better with his opponents.
Everyone handles losses differently and I’ll be the first to admit I probably would have wanted to be left alone and in my own head after an NCAA finals loss as well.

When Mitchell Mesenbrink got to the podium, he went through and shook the hand of the other All-Americans at 165 - all but Mikey Caliendo’s. When Mesenbrink stuck out his hand to the Hawkeye, Caliendo refused to acknowledge him. Mesenbrink shrugged and moved on.
