@KindaTruePosts @rdzedzz @JediFunk36 @AlexiLalas It is amazing how few people seem to know this. I think everyone assumed it was an American invented term (as I did for most of my life). I find explaining this tends to shut people up who are adamant that we call it “football”. 😂

I’ve heard so many stories of American soccer fans who experienced the 1994 World Cup as kids and are now experiencing it with their kids this summer. It’s wonderful. Enjoy…all of it.🇺🇸⚽️

@AlexiLalas myself and all of my friends started playing soccer because of the 1994 team. You were a giant part for me as I settled in as a defender. It’s come full circle as my son is watching his first World Cup and the 94 documentary and I get to share that. 👏👏🇺🇸🇺🇸

The biggest plot twist in sports: In 1863, England created The Football Association (FA) and standardized the rules of what became Association Football. At the time there were multiple versions of football - rugby football, association football, and other local football codes. British students had a habit of shortening words and adding ”-er”: Rugby = Rugger Association = Assoc. = Soccer England invented the word 'soccer' then spent the next 160 years making fun of Americans for using it.

Yeah…that’s not gonna happen. I call it soccer. I own it proudly. I never apologize for it. If you grew up calling it soccer and changed out of insecurity or some misguided belief it makes you more authentic/credible…it doesn’t. It’s cringe. It makes you look like a weak poser.

@AlexiLalas Alexi we need to talk about you continuing to call the sport “soccer” cmon man.. you could bridge the gap. Even the US players call it “football” in overseas interviews out of respect.
