Ukraine crushed NATO partners during naval exercises near the coast of Portugal. Ukrainian Magura V7 naval drones simulated the sinking of a frigate during the drills. After several simulated hits, NATO sailors even wrote in the chat: “So are you going to attack us or not?” — not realizing they had already been attacked. Ukrainian operators commanded the “red team” and won all five combat scenarios. The exercises highlighted something important: unmanned naval systems, combined with Ukraine’s real combat experience and operational planning, can pose a serious challenge to traditional naval forces. They also demonstrated that many militaries — including NATO — are still not prepared for this new type of warfare. Crimea is Ukraine. On this day, 12 years ago, Russia staged a fake referendum after it invaded Ukrainian territory. The occupation of Crimea was one of the steps that led to the full-scale invasion in 2022. Occupation can never be legitimized. Aggression must never be rewarded.

And we're easing sanctions on Russia because of the oil market fallout from the war we launched against Iran. And Russia is helping Iran with medical aid and intel, in the war we launched against Iran. And Trump is frustrated with Ukraine because it's still at war with Russia.

It can be done. Ukraine shows, in so many domains, how reducing dependence on China is possible; anything else is just laziness. Another strategic mistake for Europe would be not to integrate Ukraine into the EU (and NATO) as soon as possible.
