LYNDON TO THE MUSIC CITY BOWL From a tiny Kansas high school to opposite sidelines on a national stage Both Tanner Heckel and Miles Kitselman graduated from tiny Lyndon High School, but they never played high school sports together. Kitselman is older, and Heckel moved in as a senior, their journeys took very different routes. Heckel had one Division I offer coming out of high school, Illinois. That was it as he was extremely overlooked. No recruiting circus. No long list. He’s now a sophomore standout defensive back, continuing to develop and earn his role at the Power Four level. Heckel was the Sports in Kansas 8M-I POY and Top 11 selection after scoring 72 TDs. He was also Top 5 by SIK in basketball and set multiple 2A records in track and field at state. Heckel played at Inman until senior year. Kitselman was under-recruited, took the junior college route at Hutchinson Community College, and kept grinding. That path led him to Alabama, and now to Tennessee, where he’s emerged as a standout tight end on one of the nation’s biggest stages. Now, the two Lyndon graduates will face each other in the Music City Bowl, lining up on opposite sidelines, after playing for the same small Kansas town of around 1,000. Different paths. Same high school. Same stage. A reminder to every kid in a small school: there’s more than one way to get there and the long road still counts. #sportsinkansas A third Lyndon HS player is at the FBS level in Kaedin Massey at KSU. #sportsinkansas

Senior Hoyt Hoffine of Paola (4A) with the coast to coast poster in a 61-55 win over Fort Scott 🤯 Hoyt finished with 24 points in the win. Hoyt and his brother, Lane Hoffine, are both 6’7” twins at Paola who have started 3-0 this year. This is a team who didn’t win a single game 2 years ago, and are starting the year off hot. Tons of credit to head coach Ryan Oshel. #sportsinkansas

47 POINTS 🤯: Allie Kneisler of Lyndon with a career night tonight as Lyndon took down Marais Des Cygne Valley 65-32. 47 points on 11 threes on the night 😳😳 Shot 6\10 on twos and 11\17 on threes. She also had 4 assists and 5 rebounds in the win. Big time numbers for the Lyndon senior committed to Saint Mary’s in Leavenworth. #sportsinkansas

Tanner Heckel had five tackles on defense today for #23 Illinois in the 34-32 win over #21 USC. Heckel is a true sophomore and also had an interception earlier this season. Two years ago he was the Sports in Kansas 8-Man Division I player of the year in leading Lyndon to an undefeated season as well as the 2A basketball player of the year and state champion in multiple events in track, as well as state records in 2A. Incredible multiple sport athlete doing huge things in the Big 10. Lyndon has three division I football players currently with Heckel at Illinois, Miles Kitselman at Tennessee and Kaiden Massey at Kansas State. Lyndon’s population is just over 1,000. Heckel started his high school career at Inman. #sportsinkansas
