It was also an honour that the Honourable Minister of Finance, as well as UN Lesotho’s Resident Coordinator, Mme Amanda Mukwashi, accompanied the DSG to site. Truly a wonderful day of productive discussion and future partnership.

It was a privilege to welcome the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Ms Amina J. Mohammed, to the Polihali site today, while she is in Lesotho. We had the chance to speak about the LHWP and our partnership with communities to improve livelihoods around the project.

Over the next 6 months, our teams will work day and night to ensure that all required repairs and refurbishments are completed in the tunnels; and during this time, there will be no water transfer to SA, and 'Muela Hydropower Station will not generate electricity. 2/2

Today we kicked off the maintenance work in the LHWP tunnel system to ensure integrity and sustainability of our infrastructure. This morning, our teams successfully closed the intake gates at Katse Dam, sealing off the transfer tunnel for dewatering of the tunnel to begin. 1/2

Tonight, we are finally unloading critical components of the Tunnel Boring Machine at the port in Durban. Soon, these will be convoyed to Lesotho and to site through the Caledonspoort border. Excited to keep sharing updates of this massive journey! #LHDA #LHWPII

Elated to celebrate this huge milestone in the Polihali tunnel construction, the successful breakthrough of the upper intake tunnel into the lower intake tunnel, after seven months of excavation. Congratulations to the dedicated teams on the tunnel project! #EngineeringExcellence

Leading up to the 6-month maintenance that we will do in the LHWP tunnels from October 2024 to March 2025; our contractor has the following opportunities available.

We are proud of the progress that our engineering teams are making on the Polihali Transfer Tunnel, and other components of Phase II. The Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), that will excavate the 38km tunnel connecting Polihali and Katse Dam is slated to arrive at site soon.

One of our commitments at the recent strategy launch we hosted, was to be intentional about implementing successful livelihoods improvement programs within the LHWP. We are looking for an expert to work with us as we continue to build our capacity to do that excellently.

On this #WorldPressFreedomDay I reflect on our 38 year old journey with our media partners, and I am grateful for the stories of impact about the LHDA that they have shared over the years, and for the tough discourse we have at times, that helps us serve our communities better.

Whilst we are yet to distribute copies of the new strategy widely, I am excited for the new and bold direction that our consultations with Basotho and project area communities, as well our project principals, have led us in.

This was a day filled with much learning, alignment and more importantly for me, a platform for accountability, transparency and forging new ways forward. It was the perfect spring board for the new 10-year strategy that we launched yesterday on Wednesday March 27th!

The past two days have been powerful time of engagement and reflection for me and my team. On Tuesday we hosted reps from all our project communities at the LHDA Stakeholder Conference, in order to discuss matters that are material to them, and gain insights on how to improve.

LHDA management. Visits like this are a reminder for us to stay the course and remain grounded in our work towards the aspirations of the Government of Lesotho and Basotho. We are grateful for the PM's visit and look forward to more like it as we hit more milestones in future.
