“No government—regardless of which party is in power—should dictate what private universities can teach, whom they can admit and hire, and which areas of study and inquiry they can pursue.” - President Alan Garber hrvd.me/GarberRespond3…

@mtaibbi Trump et al embrace censorship when it benefits them: e.g., banning AP for not accepting the Gulf of America; removing references to trans people from Stonewall monument; banning any mention of words deemed woke ("inclusive", "diversity"). Hypocrisy reigns on all sides.

This is a new phase of American history. Not even sure how to describe it. It’s middle fingers in all directions
Jonathan Turley@JonathanTurley
In perhaps the greatest single declaration uttered since“Ich bin ein Berliner,” Vance in Munich declared a type of "Ich bin ein Amerikanisch": “If you are running in fear of your own voters, there is nothing America can do for you. Nor, for that matter, is there anything that you can do for the American people that elected me and elected President Trump.” thehill.com/opinion/intern…

@mtaibbi Do you take issue with the latest attempt to counter "indoctrination" by curbing open enquiry and free speech or are you reserving your outrage these days to Anyone But Trump? (and, yes - I get the irony...)

Journalists have a responsibility to protest censorship wherever it takes place, including on this platform. Reporters who embrace government “flaggers” are just using state power to silence their competition.

@ezraklein incredible interview with Tareq Baconi. Your shows are invaluable in navigating and understanding this crisis.

@treyradel @ggreenwald denying climate change; gutting EPA wetland regs; replacing the Clean Power Plan; banning Muslim immigrants (even if it took 3x); Rule 42 (un-American); attempt to hijack the census with the citizenship question... want more? Honestly, climate change is enough by itself
English

@ggreenwald Genuine question to the liberals (of past and present) that follow Glenn-- during his term, what Trump policies were "radical?" What legislation was "radical?"
English

@SystemUpdate_ Agree totally on the crimes and scary acts couched in the war on terror. But you underestimate the societal impact of Trump: he inflames the worst in us (insults, resentments, hatreds)- no solutions or constructive policies. It is indeed dangerous.
English

It is *shocking* that the same “War on Terror” criminals in the US govt who:
- Invaded Iraq with multiple falsehoods
- Implemented the Patriot Act & warrantless mass domestic spying
- Bombed eight Muslim countries killing countless civilians
- Created due process-free prisons
- Instituted a torture regime & CIA black sites
Are now celebrated by American liberals & the media who see Trump—rather than those who did this—as some uniquely evil moral monstrosity.
English

@brithume are you going to update your response now that it's clearer what happened -pushed a door he thought would alarm and reset? #getthefacts #responsiblejournalism
English

@brithume Many statements are "true" but do no belong in education standards: enslaved women benefitted from loving the babies they had by white masters/rapists; Jews learned new skills in concentration camps; blacks found better paying jobs when forced to migrate for fear of lynching. 🤬

DeSantis is right about this. Tim Scott is wrong and so is Byron Donalds. Much of the media, of course, are playing it otherwise. washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/desant…
English

@StephenKing I think Biden should just go ahead and pardon him now - that would totally upend the victim narrative. Thoughts?
English

@ggreenwald you point is somewhat misleading - "most favorable" garners approx 45% - Americans don't really like any "leaders" out there
English

A newly released Harris-Harvard poll conclusively demonstrates how radically out of touch is liberal corporate media with the views of Americans.
It's not just that corporate media rejects Americans' views. They don't permit those views to be heard.

@ggreenwald @benshapiro I very much appreciate your views and insights, but I am curious about whether you are downplaying the danger Trump poses (not in terms of the security state) due to his denial of the threat posed by climate change and by his willingness to violate women's bodily autonomy
English

For years, @benshapiro and I have exchanged vitriolic criticism and even insults. He recently invited me on his show to discuss those, along with a wide range of political, journalistic and cultural questions. It aired today: I appreciate the discourse:

@RealSkipBayless I can't even. This is not rocket science. Of course they can reschedule it. I'd say "what is wrong with you?" but I'm trying to make the internet a better place

Have to say I've been pretty impressed with the follow-up reporting on the #PegasusProject by @haaretzcom.
It's great to see somebody in Israel taking it seriously, even if the government isn't. The public shouldn't be locked out of an investigation that effects the whole world.

@ggreenwald The vaccine works to prevent you from dying; not, so it seems, from contracting the delta variant and spreading it. You're an intelligent person: not sure why you don't get that. "Dreary images"? We're still in the midst of a pandemic... Suck it up.
English

I again have to ask: if the primary goal now is to persuade vaccine skeptics that the vaccine works and they should take it for the benefit of returning to normal life, what message do dreary images like this -- from leading officials who are fully vaccinated -- send to them??

Quote: “IRS statistics from 2018 show that the top 1% of taxpayers (more than $540,000 in income) paid 40.1% of all individual income taxes; the top 5% (about $218,000 in income) paid 60.3%. The lowest 50% paid less than 3%.” Fair share? wsj.com/articles/biden…

@tanzinavega You're missing the fact that every developed country has low birthrates, even those with social support networks (Sweden, Norway, etc.). We need those but be honest about the root causes of plunging birthrates.
