The Lipka Lab would like to congratulate Dr. Murphy for successfully defending today! We are all proud of you, Matt!

Today has been full of emotions. Today, I defended my Ph.D. As of a few minutes ago, I am proud to announce that I am officially Dr. Murphy! I want to thank everyone for making this journey possible!

Here is Alex as an invited speaker for the UC Davis African Plant Breeding Academy, which is an initiative of the African Orphan Crops Consortium, with this fifth cohort sponsored by Mars Inc.

This past Monday, Dr. Lipka visited the Olimpio Lab at the Federeal University of Viçosa (in Brazil). Here, Dr. Lipka is pictured with Dr. Kaio Olimpio (@KaioOlimpio; second from left) and his lab members.

Dr. Lipka will be visiting the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture of the University of São Paulo, the Federal University of Viçosa, and the Federal University of Lavras.

Dr. Lipka is excited to be in Brazil as part of the UIUC ACES Global Academy. He will be visiting three partnering institutions (full names in the comment section) for the next two weeks. Here, Dr. Lipka is with soon-to-be Lipka Lab Ph.D. student, Talissa de Oliveira Floriani!

The Lipka Lab is at the 2023 Gordon Research Conference in Quantitative Genetics and Genomics. Dr . Alex Lipka will be heading the High-Throughput Phenotyping discussion on Thursday, while Ph.D. Candidate @MatthewMurph will be presenting a poster about his work in vGWAS.

@SarahWidener3 just presented her talk, "G x E in Miscanthus Sinensis and Sacchariflorus" at PAG. Up next is Professor Lipka is giving a talk, "Assesment of the Suitability of Variance Genome-Wide Association Studies to Identify GxE Loci in Plants."

Dr. Alex Lipka presented this past week at the Annual ASA_CSSA_SSSA Meeting in Baltimore. Here is Dr. Lipka with the rest of the Quantitative Analytics Using Machine Learning Symposium speakers and organizers.

Lab member Sarah had the opportunity to visit The Land Institute, @NatureAsMeasure ,this past weekend where she gave a presentation, meet some exceptional scientist, and learned more about the fantastic work on perennial species.

Last week was a busy week for the Lipka Lab. The Lipka Lab and our collaborators, the Eveland Lab, phenotyped our main UIUC field. To potentially speed up phenotyping this year, both labs decided to give our field a little color to pre-mark plants for phenotyping.

This past week the lab attended the annual AIFarms conference where we had the opportunity to learn more about the research and collaborations happening at UIUC between Crop Science and Computer Science. The overlap between these fields is an exciting area for innovation!

The Lipka Lab supports our students being involved with the Corteva Agriscience Plant Sciences Symposia Series. This year's symposium co-chair at UIUC is no other than the Lipka Lab's very own @MatthewMurph.

Lab member @Sarah62739279 just wrapped up her summer internship with @Bayer following in the footsteps of both @ricebrian06 and @MatthewMurph. She had a great experience leaning more about computer science and cotton breeding along with working on an absolutely awesome team!

Tassels and ears are starting to become visible across the Lipka Lab field.
