Wow, extremely blessed to be recognized as one of the top ESL teachers in the nation! Very humbled and blessed to be selected for this national cohort to work and advocate for immigrant, migrant, and refugee communities in Omaha and across the country.

In the later seasons of The Cosby Show, Theo mentored a student with dyslexia. By sharing his own struggle, he built trust and changed a life. That’s the kind of teacher I strive to be—one who connects through vulnerability and lifts students up.

Less than 2% of educators in this country are Black men. Honored to stand alongside these incredible, award winning educators from Massachusetts, Missouri, and Pennsylvania—men who lead with passion, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to our students. Representation matters.

Last week, I had the joy of reconnecting with some of the 2022 State Teachers of the Year cohort. I’m truly appreciative of these incredible educators. We built a lasting friendship grounded in our shared belief that all students deserve to be seen, heard, and valued.
