The reason why people have reacted emotionally to all the profound statements made by the astronauts and the photographs is because we are not seeing science, basic human decency, intelligence, humanity being center stage absolutely nowhere in the world atm. Even a pandemic failed to make us realize how beautiful our planet is, what a gift it is to be born on this planet and how cruel we have become as a species. The Artemis II mission has made people feel connected to the universe, to the earth, to the moon. This planet doesn't just belong to the rich and powerful billionaires and politicians. It belongs to us, the people who want to do good by our children, our families, our communities and our planet. What are the odds that we and all our ancestors were born and get to experience life on one of the dots in this picture of the Milky Way? Make it count.

@DearS_o_n Therapy. It’s hands down one of the best decisions I’ve made.

Someone could go to school for 4 years and study aerospace engineering, then get a PhD with a dissertation related to orbital mechanics, and some instagram influencer who watched a youtube video will be like "actually that guy is wrong" on a topic related to space travel and people will believe them.
I'm not sure how we got here, but I hope we go back to a society where credibility is earned with rigorous training in the associated field, not by a popularity contest.

It's sooooo cool and wonderful to listen to this NASA broadcast and hear so many (brilliant! qualified! badass!) women's voices
Women have always been smart and capable, but we haven't always been included. These missions are, and always have been, for all of humanity, and it makes me emotional that the historical record of this important mission will be filled, for the first time, with the voices of women, too

And just knowing the work, dedication of people and advancement in technology in the last 50 years in order to do so should be something us humans should be in awe of. I have loved watching this mission.

Can’t believe how many people are thinking the Artemis mission is not real. The conspiracy theories flying around (excuse the pun) are crazy. Yesterday we flew the furthest humans ever have and that should be celebrated. The imagery, being able to actually watch it ourselves(1/2)

Sweet dreams, @NASAArtemis II crew.
One last look at the Moon before flight day six and your epic lunar flyby, taking you farther into space than humans have EVER traveled.

4 people are in there with hopes, dreams, risk and the unknown.
It makes me breathless, knowing how they're feeling and what they're facing.
So exciting to see what we're capable of when we work together in common purpose, deciding to push back the edges of our collective ignorance.
Have a great voyage, crew of @NASAArtemis!

Liftoff.
The Artemis II mission launched from @NASAKennedy at 6:35pm ET (2235 UTC), propelling four astronauts on a journey around the Moon.
Artemis II will pave the way for future Moon landings, as well as the next giant leap — astronauts on Mars.
