What a slap in the face of UK taxpayers Another policy I'd advise is to deport migrants BEFORE they can make an appeal Allowing illegal migrants to stay in the UK whilst they appeal their failed application places a huge burden on the state. The "deport first, appeal later" policy was piloted between 2015 and 2017 and significantly reduced in-country appeals by 87%, as it shifted the appeal process overseas. This deterred frivolous claims and accelerated deportations. Lamentably, the policy was ultimately curtailed following judicial reviews, notably in cases like Kiarie and Byndloss v Secretary of State for the Home Department[2017] UKSC 42. In that case, the Supreme Court found that out-of-country appeals could breach Article 8 of the ECHR (right to respect for private and family life).
