Jaden Hendrikse and Sacha Mngomezulu is the future halfback pairing of SA rugby. Save this tweet! 2023 WC might be just too soon for Sacha but I will give him an opportunity at the end of year tour. Damian Willemse quality too.

@rugby_ap 1st point spot on,but not only Manie can get the backline going imo. SFM can too and better on D. SFM needs more games at 10 to improve his game management. SFM needs to learn that not every touch has to be magic.First do the basics well, then put the icing on the cake.

Springboks are a bit trapped with some backline selections. Let me explain and then the usual suspects can get mad. Willie - a real servant, was solid on the weekend but everyone knows he’s in the real twilight of his career. Most didn’t expect him to play RC at all. So why’s he there? 1) because Pollard needs a hand running a backline - always has, his Achilles heel as a FH. 2) because KLA is injured and young guys like Moodie and Hooker need help adapting to the defensive system (no surprise Moodie was much better vs NZ with Willie marshalling) Manie - the impossible conundrum. Most suited to the style we *want* to play, best vision, best at getting our backline going. But time and again is inconsistent and melts down when the pressure is on. We’re chasing something pretty much only he can give us which is why he keeps getting chances. No one else to bring into the squad either really - Jordan doesn’t give us this. Moyo an unknown entity at senior level. The anti-Willie guys need to understand why he keeps getting selected, and the anti-Manie guys need to understand why he can’t be dropped. And both need to understand that the two are somewhat interlinked. Ironically the solution to both would be if Manie could step up and actually manage a tight game (which is what I called for before the trip to NZ). If he can keep composed and consistent under pressure then you can start to back him and SFM without the need for the Pollard emergency lever. Pollard *will* secure a game for you but is not a player around whom you can build the style we want to play. But he’s completely necessary until we can trust the other two flyhalves not to go AWOL under pressure - and as long as we have Pollard there, we need Willie.

@Altgthr The main issue is the willingness to let a top talent go simply because he doesn’t fit a manager’s system— a manager who has not proven he will be successful yet. The midfield two (incl Bruno) in front of him also does not fit the system perfectly so why not give him a go.

I think the issue those of us who don’t want to see Mainoo go is that we know in a different system he would become a world class player. It’s not so much having favourites, but seeing the potential he has. Sure, the sentiment around ‘local/academy lad’ has a bearing for some, but it’s more so the talent and the inability to find a place in this system that’s hugely frustrating…and from his perspective, displace Bruno? Won’t happen. Well, that’s how I feel I guess.

@Altgthr On balance it probably suits the Amorim system better. But we also loose leadership and potentially its harder to sign top level players when losing our only world class player. In summary, it can work, but only if Ineos can reinvest smartly, which is no guarantee unfortunately.

@Altgthr Best option is we keep Bruno for sure.We know what we get in Bruno, goals and assists.BUT if we do end up selling him for excess of 100 mln and we CAN(not guaranteed)invest that in Gyokeres and Mbeumo,we replace the goals. Use the remaining budget for 2 decent midfielders (1)

Selling Bruno when you finish 4th, 5th, 6th or even 7th, whilst frustrating, could make some sense, but when you finish 15th, it’s a lot harder to not only attract the players you want to replace him but you also need to make sure your recruitment team get it right immediately. There is no evidence as of yet that we have ‘best in class’ when it comes to recruitment and the chances of them spending that money correctly, well the jury is out. To lose not only Bruno this summer, but if you also take Garnacho and look at the stats he and Bruno have accumulated across the last two seasons, well you can make your own mind up about what may happen next. It’s a massive risk !!!

Bokke reminding us of NZ of old. Not quite at our best, but still found a way to win.

1)Line outs struggling+AB’s scored from 2 line outs. 2)AB’s winning the battle in the air. 3) Bokke not dominating physically, but most surprising our attacking shape has been shocking and NZ finding way more space out wide than expected. Hoping the bench can tighten things up

Three key areas Boks will be tested today for me. 1) Line outs, both on our own ball but also contesting(AB’s launch attack from LO) 2) Ball carriers in middle of park. 3) High ball. Really difficult to beat Clarke in the air when he goes for the tap back.

I don’t think the Boks will have it all our way with the physical dominance today, but its also the first time since I can remember where we can probably back ourselves to go toe to toe with the AB’s skill wise.

But really excited to see what we will do on attack. Might see a lot of Dixon and PSTD in the trams out wide. Hoping Sacha has a real go today. Exciting talent!

Across the season I must do around 15k-20k car miles back and forth to OT and I’ve been doing it for many a year. Some friends think I’m mad, but I wouldn’t change a thing. Plus, I’ve met a few of you top people along the way. Onto season 24/25. Bring on United #MUFC
