This won’t be a popular opinion, but for all his undeniable quality, Thiago is hugely overrated by parts of the Liverpool fanbase when it comes to his actual time at the club. He was a fantastic footballer, no question. Technically superb, elegant on the ball, and a joy to watch when fit. The problem was that he was rarely fit. Despite his talent, his style did not suit Liverpool’s high-intensity approach and often left the midfield unbalanced. Across four seasons he made just 98 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and registering six assists, while missing close to 130 matches through injury. In terms of trophies, he won an FA Cup and a Community Shield. Perfectly respectable, but nowhere near the legacy some fans like to suggest. You would think he had won everything going. It is also worth noting that Liverpool won the league the season before he arrived and again the season after he left. The reality is much simpler. Thiago was brilliant in moments, frustratingly absent for long periods, and is remembered more for the idea of what he could have been than for the consistency of what he actually delivered. A lovely footballer, certainly, just not the Anfield great some make him out to be.

The nostalgia about the old UCL format group stage is crazy Half the groups would be finished by the 4th game Even finishing 3rd wasn’t the end of the world because you’d drop into Europa You’d maybe get 1 group of death that would be entertaining

@FPLfrasier The format is terrible but anothrt issue is the quality of some of the teams.

32 teams playing 8 teams each over a few months to eliminate just 8 teams is something I don’t like. Champions league is supposed to be the biggest stage of football. I see many teams rotating their teams and playing squad players. 🤷🤷 Someone needs to something about it.
