@plungostie @sillygirlin_ Only bad thing in 4 is that it recycles most of the levels/bosses halfway through the game. But for me not that big of a deal because it’s still much fun. I also liked the reboot DmC gameplay wise. But the character writing was horrible in that.

@sillygirlin_ Is dmc just a series where half the games suck? Only one I played was 5 and I loved it, now I’m hearing dmc 1,2 and 4 stink! Which ones are the good ones?

@yao_nobond @SebAaltonen The hair rendering in comparison looks out of place because it looks pretty modern. The face/skin shader also looks a bit dated. Would be ok if they go for a more stylised look but the art direction isn’t really coherent.

@yao_nobond @SebAaltonen In this screenshot. The wood texture looks super low resolution and the geometry also isn’t very detailed. Same for the rocks in the background or clothing. This also doesn’t seem to use any (now oldschool) shader tricks like bump mapping, displacement mapping to fake more detail

Monster Hunter Wilds enables frame gen by default. I know that algorithmic complexity != visual quality. But in this case, the game just looks horrible compared to the extreme hardware requirements to even hit 60Hz.

@SebAaltonen @_trish_07 Other problems are of course classical manual memory management issues. You just need to be more careful with the whole software design compared to other languages since it’s all on the programmer. Defining clear ownership, freeing resources after error handling etc.

@SebAaltonen @_trish_07 Many problems arise with null-terminated strings. If the null-terminator is missing you can easily run into memory regions not part of the allocation. The C string APIs mostly doesn’t account for that. That’s why so many third-party „safe“ options exist.

C is NOT a hard language. Most people just don’t have the patience to learn pointers properly.

@dvassallo In a game you would not only optimise your code but also your scene structure and assets for efficient rendering. A browser needs to handle any kind of HTML and be able to evaluate complex CSS styles on the fly. Both not good for performance.

@dvassallo WebGL 2 is relatively similar to OpenGL ES3. So there is very little overhead on top and you can use similar software designs that are used for native game engines and are pretty efficient. HTML and CSS are extremely versatile but not very efficient when it comes to rendering.

How can web browsers render something like this at 60 FPS but if I add a few rows to an HTML table the page freezes for half a second while it repaints?
