Controversial COVID study that promoted unproven treatment retracted after four-year saga nature.com/articles/d4158… Ironic that the co-authors complain they were “victims of cyber-harassment” - they should try being on the receiving end of HCQ believers, including Raoult himself.

@drrichjlaw And a reminder that the first treatment we showed to reduce COVID deaths was dexamethasone - generic and at a cost of about £5/$10 per patient.

@adiosmuchachos4 @fastercures I’d put it differently - involvement of the public (in all its glorious varieties) is crucial for this to succeed - and listening is every bit as important as talking.

@MartinLandray @fastercures Education of the general public is also crucial for this to succeed.

Also from the @fastercures conference: Regulation (clinical trials, AI and more) must: 1. Protect patients and participants from harm (I’d argue that harm can only be considered in context of benefit) 2. Preserve flexibility for discovery, innovation and entrepreneurship.

@adiosmuchachos4 @fastercures Agree. But that’s one of the reasons why facilitating the generation of reliable evidence is so important. Evidence on its own is not sufficient. But without it everything is misinformation.

@MartinLandray @fastercures There is now so much misinformation to fight as well. It just makes it all the more difficult.
