Introduction
Unorthodox design and layout, GravaStar sent out this keyboard in recognition of my Valorant skill. [skip to end for conclusion]
Games Played: Valorant, KovaaK’s, Arc Raiders, Where Winds Meet
Previous Keyboards Used: Keychron C1 (Brown Switches), KBD Fans Tigerlite Gaming + Venom 87HE (Geon Raw HE Switches)
Unboxing
Simple but premium packaging. It comes with a keycap and switch puller and a cleaning brush + cloth for keyboard maintenance which is a really nice touch. It also comes with 4 extra switches.
Case + Keycaps
The case is surprisingly sturdy and the hybrid of Aluminium frame and a plastic base to keep it lighter but not too light to the point where it feels cheap is genius to me. It also has adjustable feet underneath for angular adjustments which is great was initially skeptical about the keycaps since they looked quite smooth, however there is texturing on the top which prevents my fingers from slipping - but I am still not personally a fan of how the sides feel when I push down. I am also not a fan of the font, which is a non issue since I have the keyboard backlight turned off.
Sound + Feel
The Gateron Jades sound extremely clacky and sharp, which are extremely satisfying to bottom out, but also not so loud to the point where I can hear them through my IEMs. The sharpness is enhanced by the 5-layer acoustic foam that comes preinstalled, meaning it sounds slightly better than your typical HE keyboard. Typing feels satisfying.
Software
Web driver makes it very easy, and it comes with what I’d say are pretty decent preset configs, polling rate is also variable which is useful if you have a lower end PC. You’re able to change both the backlight to the keyboard and the lights surrounding it which to me is a huge plus since I have the sidelights on while the backlight remains off. The recalibration is very useful to do, especially after shipment (which is also recommended as you unbox the keyboard) and all the other functions work perfectly - SOCD, DKS, MT, MPT, TGL, END.
Appearance + Layout
The appearance grew on me, a couple of my friends likened it to the spline bundle in Valorant but it's very unique and I do enjoy it. The layout took a bit of time to get used to particularly the shorter right shift, as I use that quite a lot but I love the fact I still have my function keys and arrow
Pros
+ Insanely responsive HE
+ Overall build itself is solid
+ Sound knob to fiddle around with
Cons
- Keycaps not to my liking texture or font wise
- Switches are quite wobbly
- Grey colourway isn’t it
Conclusion
This keyboard has performed so well for me in Valorant, and definitely ensured my movement was kept consistent. It’s clean, it does its job and its not egregiously priced.
If you’re looking for something to pick up quickly I can recommend this. GravaStar were also kind enough to give me an affiliate code, so use code SAIKO for 15% off :)
