As a man, I did not respond to her directly, but instead went over to her bedstand and picked up her copper water bottle. Empirical evidence defeats rhetoric. Empty. Sputtering, she said, "Yeah! I finished that last night..." (then in smaller voice) "Or maybe it was the day before..." "Indeed", I said, with paternal care. Thus, I filled up her water bottle to set her up for success.
