Where education misses the mark is that while reading and math are important, they aren't sufficient. The Arts, music, physical education, etc., are every bit as important!

My teaching philosophy is based on relationships. The current Ed culture removes time for building true relationships and replaces it with academics. You can't make them care more about school work by giving them more. We have to invest in them as humans, not scores, first.

Students work harder for teachers who value, care and respect them. And Adults do too! Relationships before rigor.

Teachers love Admin who: 1) Roll up their sleeves to help 2) Really listen 3) Present: in classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, lunchroom 4) Value teachers time 5) Support/encourage them 6) Respect /value them 7) Have their back 8] Appreciate them

You can not administrate a school to excellence.

Leadership is all about Relationship. Helping those you lead become their best!

How do you encourage growth? Accept failing as the beginning of success rather than making it the opposite of success. Trying and failing has to be accepted. Not trying doesn't.

As our students walk through our hallways, do we see data points and test scores? Or do we see the hearts of the children that walk by us? As our colleagues walk by us in the hallways, do we see the science teacher or the person that science teacher is? -@thomascmurray
