In the absence of traffic officers during those critical early moments, my colleague Moses Wasswa Kalule, several community residents, and I stepped forward to guide motorists away from danger and direct them onto safer alternative routes.
Our immediate goal was simple but important: protect lives, prevent congestion, and keep traffic moving.

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: True leadership is not always exercised in boardrooms.
Sometimes, it happens on dark roads, in difficult moments, with ordinary people choosing to do the right thing.
My colleague Moses Wasswa Kalule and I exercised this along the Jinja - Iganga road at Gaddafi roundabout.
I have the story…
We did it! Students and teachers of Seroma High School were successfully transported on board the URC passenger train from Mukono to Kampala. The initiative is aimed at reducing traffic congestion, ensuring safe travel, among others. It’s the first, but not the last.

Today We visited Kiira Motors Campus, got to speak with the team that is running the facility, business and bringing the vision to life! I was really impressed with the final product, the work, the team and the roadmap. Eng Isaac Musasizi & team are flying the flag so HIGH kudos
I know for a long time, innovation in Uganda felt distant, with little clarity on how ideas translate into real impact, but that is changing.
Today, we are seeing innovation move beyond theory into practical, scalable solutions that are shaping everyday life and the economy.
Take E-Bus Xpress, a brainchild of the STI Secretariat and Kiira Motors Corporation.
Through its Mobility-as-a-Service model, transport operators no longer need to own buses, removing one of the biggest barriers to entry.
With integrated contactless payments and electronic ticketing, the system improves efficiency and positions operators to achieve profitability from day one.
This is what a working innovation system looks like, where technology, policy, and business models come together to unlock opportunity.
Already operational in Jinja since November 2024, E-Bus Xpress is set to scale to over 1,500 buses across Uganda’s cities, building a safe, sustainable, and inclusive urban mobility system.
This is the kind of innovation that will drive Uganda toward $500B economy, not isolated ideas, but scalable systems with real impact.
The black box is open.
The question now is;-
are we paying enough attention to what’s coming out of it… and are we ready to scale it?

The two-wheeled dilemma: Kampala’s plan to evict bodabodas
“Now we are going to Phase Two, which is the bodabodas and the taxis. The city is in a mess with the bodaboda industry. And we must regulate and manage the city because they have been in the city for over 15 years and paying nothing,” Uhuru said.
