Everyone needs security guarantees, not only Ukraine. And this is exactly what Moscow demanded in December 2021, two months before the war - that Russia be given security assurances, including one important provision - Ukraine would not join NATO or host any NATO troops. Both of these were carelessly dismissed by Ukraine and the West just like any previous agreements between Russia and Ukraine.
