@MuskokaCD

🇨🇦🇮🇪 I am not the tolerant Left; disapproval of today's Conservatives does not a Liberal make. I have a foul mouth, get over it. Country before party.

@ArikHeart1 @brockpierson We were all happy and comfortable placing that trust in the US until Trump shook it up. As long as he wants to threaten our country then his politics need to be our business. We have to pay attention.

@brockpierson Because America leads the world, regardless of whether or not people in these other countries agree. What happens in politics in this country directly contributes to the direction of humanity.

Pierre Poilievre bragging that he got 87% of the vote out of 2500 picked conservatives & he was the only one on the ballot. Mark Carney got 85% of 152,000 liberal voters with 2 other people running against him. 🤔

@Daniell9no @NoGunsInCanada @RodKahx If your MP crossed and you don't agree, organize a protest at your local constituency office. It is democratic, and that's the democratic response to carry your disagreement -- and then make sure you vote next election.

@MuskokaCD @NoGunsInCanada @RodKahx I agree with you on that, all I am saying is winning a majority by floor crossings it’s not very democratic and ethical imo.

So I've read that no Prime Minister has gained a majority by floor crossing. It begs, the question. Has a leader of the opposition ever given a majority away because he couldn't stop MP's from leaving his party?

@Daniell9no @NoGunsInCanada @RodKahx And FTR, I do not like when any government has a majority either, even if it's one I'm currently supporting. But that doesn't change the distinction of 343 elections and the way in which our system was designed to work.

@Daniell9no @NoGunsInCanada @RodKahx "No they’re not absolutely mathematical, a majority government can govern the country 100% as they seem fit to do so with no limits." Because of seat count. When you add up the votes, mathematically, a majority can't be beaten. That's math.

@Daniell9no @NoGunsInCanada @RodKahx The challenge is that some people want to view it as 1 election, when in reality we run 343 completely separate elections. "Majority" and "minority" are only mathematical. What happens with each MP inside each riding is only the matter of the riding and the MP elected to it.

@NoGunsInCanada @RodKahx Fully agree. But even though I dislike P.P doesn’t make it right that a party gets a majority just because of floor crossings because that looks like a power grab. That’s what elections are for.

The Conservative Party of Canada was founded by a dirty backroom deal in 2003. Then, 70+ MPs crossed the floor from the Alliance and PCs to the new CPC. Did their constituents get a say? They elected either a PC MP or a Reform MP and ended up with a CPC MP.

Pierre Poilievre delivers a PERFECT response to a CTV News reporter who tried to question his leadership. "My leadership does not come from dirty backroom deals. It comes from the people of Canada." Pierre for PM 🇨🇦

@IceHockeyCommie @lauralee050 @rupasubramanya I didn't avoid your question, I answered it directly. In order for the gov to help those ridings they need to pass legislation on items to help. The CPC obstructs those, how can the gov help those ridings when the MPs vote against the help?

So Poilievre as leader of the opposition for the next decade? If a party collapses the moment its leader leaves, that suggests it's not built on principles but on personality cult. Which explains the unhinged reactions from his online groupies: no tolerance for criticism during the campaign, and even less now.

@IceHockeyCommie @rupasubramanya But do we want to be paying millions and millions for EACH by-election over bad party leadership? Or do we allow the elected MP to represent the riding they have been elected in by seeking the best possible outcomes for said riding?

@lauralee050 @IceHockeyCommie @rupasubramanya The Libs aren't preventing the Conservative MPs from representing their ridings - that would be the leadership of the CPC who is whipping them to party line. The MP's are unhappy with the party line, they are unhappy doing nothing but obstruct things that would help their riding.

@Annans4g If a riding truly has a problem with the decision, that riding can organize and protest at their local constituency office. That's how our system is designed.

@Annans4g Anna, we hold 343 distinct elections across Canada on election day. A ridings choice in one part of the country is not connected to ridings choice in another part, the MP of each is not beholden to the others. Each crossing is between the MP and their riding. No one else.

@mrpeterlabrie @KNugent4118 An MP who JUST won the election hands down, was "offered" a cushy job in a Conservative lobby firm, and confirmed back in January that he was returning to that seat again. Nah, no backroom deals. Nothing to see here. 🤣

Poilievre whining on TV calling floor crossers dirty backroom deals. Can someone remind that twatwaffle that it was he who upon losing his own seat in Carleton, kicked out a duly elected MP in BRCF and forced a by-election so he could run again in the safest CPC riding.

No. The final vote to kill the bill was 181 to 91. The Conservative Party held a majority at the time, and 143 of their MPs voted to defeat the legislation. The bill needed 137 votes to pass (272 MPs were present and voted on this bill). If just 46 of those Conservative MPs (about 32% of the Conservatives who voted) had voted "Yes", the bill would have secured a majority and passed into law. All 33 Liberal MPs who were present also voted "Nay" on the bill. Today, the Liberals maintain their position and do not demand automatic by-elections for politicians changing parties. @PierrePoilievre actively advocates for this exact consequence today, reversing his personal 2012 vote that prevented it from becoming law. You can view the full, individual voting record for every MP here: openparliament.ca/votes/41-1/123/
