Overnight, I did something that made me proud of being a dad. My 5-yr old daughter lost a tooth yesterday and brought it to me, saying she had been informed that a certain being called "tooth fairy" would take her tooth from under her pillow while she slept, and would replace it with money. I went with her to hide the tooth under her pillow. She was excited and expectant. Around 5am today, while she slept like an angel, I removed the tooth and replaced it with five three thousand naira and a beautiful, new key holder. I was in the hospital today when she called, full of joy, to inform me that the tooth fairy had visited her overnight. She lavishly shared the news about her money and gift that it made me feel healthier, instantly. There are certain simple joys of life that matter over every challenge, disappointment, and failure. This was one of them for me. I just returned home and she can't stop talking about it. My pain is temporarily gone.
