Nobody is saying Jaccob Slavin isn't the best shutdown D in this series. He is.
That said, Sanderson is also elite defensively while providing SO MUCH more offence it makes the overall ranking a no-brainer.

@caniacally @hallamaniac07 Ottawa survived without some of their big guns a few times this season (beat the Rangers with 4D, no Chabot, no Sanderson), but the playoffs are a different animal. Every team is good. A healthy Crosby, Malkin, and Karlsson is no joke either.

I will say this. As much as the bruins, panthers, rangers, and devils fans can be obnoxious (all fan bases are, pipe down before y’all start 🙄), they did *know* about our team—good, bad, and ugly.
Starting to think Ottawa has a blackout on Canes games or something. 🤨

I think my main problem is Darche's strength is his drafting and his biggest weakness is pro scouting (at least early on).
In the 2025 Draft (not counting Schaefer of course) Eklund, Aitcheson, Prokohorov, Poletin and Kvasnicka are all trending well while he has thrown airballs on a lot of NHL player adds and re-signings.
Schenn's been productive offensively sure, but a defensive disaster, not cheap at $6.5M and in his mid 30's while the Islanders are not contenders.
