Ive been on a bit of an indie game kick this month and while a lot have the same types of jokes they never hit the same. I think because they have a good idea for a joke, they dont want it to go to waste. And so they dont let you miss the joke or mess it up

A lot of UT/DR humor is "two wacky guys" but youve volunteered to be one of the guys. E.g. if you keep taking candy the game realizes youre being a Wise Guy and reacts by playing a Straight Man. It feels kind of like doing improv and both sides have chances to go "Yes, and?"
