@NeptunesOrgit

I know it's pointless to try and catch up on sleep Leftcom (Rosa Luxemburg and Bordiga fan) + ZUTOMAYO’s biggest fan in the UK

@PiratePatriot47 Even if you don’t care for the research, physics, more than any other science, pushes engineering to its limits. This has uses. This is how innovation happens, you might not notice it but it’s there.That is the undeniable use of physics research and experimentation.

@NeptunesOrgit What has changed? Please, tell me what I have missed. Confirming behaviors we expected (like antimatter experiencing gravity) changes absolutely nothing and has no practical application Physics has not produced a notable advancement in decades

@PiratePatriot47 any work on gravity is useful because it is the one fundamental force not explained in the standard model and this research helps us gather definite rules that the model that is yet to be must account for

Yet another observation of gravity, but still no control over it Antimatter experiencing gravity seems minor because it keeps our current understanding static, vs moving forward The observed behavior was the expected behavior - Nothing new It's a remarkable machine, and does interesting things, but I see know signs it will move our understanding beyond where we are today

@PiratePatriot47 They have been producing results… in papers… like most scientific studies. Not all of them make headlines, obviously, but a lot of important research has been done. Also calling physics stalled by decades is crazy, clearly the US eeucation system has been stalled by centuries.

The LHC is where all the spend is - and therefor what I expect to produce the results I do not care if the scientists are proud of the paper they wrote. I care about practical application of science We are +$20B into this, and don't have anything other than papers to show for it This team needs to produce results, or we should reallocate spend to other research Physics has been stalled for decades, we have to change something to make progress

@PiratePatriot47 Also they have had somewhat recent breakthroughs, namely involving antimatter, they proved it experiences gravity, which seems minor, but really isn’t, and can no reliably make anti-hydrogen, the only place in the world it can be done

@PiratePatriot47 They actually do a lot of things at CERN, the LHC alone has many different studies running. The scientists there are also well aware of how new technology made for these can help the wider world and seem quite proud of it, I would know I’ve been there.
