In this incident, the software flipped from ‘hover mode’ to ‘airplane mode’ before the vehicle was fast enough to cruise like one - compounded by a propulsion/rotor droop that kicked off the tailspin. Developmental Learnings: 1. Know every bit of the software you’re flying - we went on to develop an in-house flight computer now used across Anduril systems. 2. Use simulation early and often with fully-representative vehicle models and software in the loop to predict outcomes.
