The worst part is Skyler got the money for his cancer treatment in episode 1 but Walter turned it down and felt emasculated. It was never about the money and cancer that was the point of the show

I’m pretty sure Steven was ALREADY Going through a couple things already like trauma, and in the show it’s said that conflict that happens to him may feel like a bigger thing than it already is, so this whole scene was kinda realistic bc Steven’s trauma did a big part in this🤞🏼
