@Grace_Bytes The issue is degree. If your choices are heavily constrained by biology, environment, and other agents, then “free” becomes limited, not absolute. So the question is: Is your will independent or just the output of factors you didn’t choose?

@pika_nekopanda Kamikaze horrified us and were very effective against ships. Intentional suicide attacks aren’t in our nature so it made the Japanese appear to be especially alien. There’s great respect for how hard the Japanese fought but not for the suicidal nature of some of it.

@pika_nekopanda America was more or less content to sit out the war. FDR even spoke admirably about Hitler and even wanted to institute some of his policies here before the people that really run the world delayed the knowledge that Japan was on the way and used the sneak attack to piss us off.
