Quen Blackwell shot for Sophia “Phia” Wilson’s forthcoming photobook, aptly titled “GRWM.” (2025)
A coffee table book that captures young Black womanhood from the perspective of a Gen Z twenty-something.
Wilson, who is only twenty-five years old herself, has shot for Vogue, Vanity Fair & The New York Times within the span of her twelve-year career.
“… it became very important for me to publish something that was a love letter that comes directly from my heart, a giant coffee table book full of stories from my life. I've been working on it with Raquel Michel, creative producer, for about a year. I needed to sink into a personal project; it fills me with such satisfaction to create something that has a deep meaning for me and my community.“
◼︎ Vogue Interviewer: “It seems to me that almost all your photographs are linked to a personal red thread, almost autobiographical?”
“That's why I like to call this work a mockumentary, an intersection between the traditional documentary and a world that I build. So I worked with Quen: we set up a world around her that talks about her but also about me and my ideas…”
— She said in an interview with Vogue Italia late last year.
The book is set to debut this year and derives from Phia’s Black girlhood memories and the collective of Black trailblazers (both past and present) who have dominated the culture, fashion, photography and algorithm!

The evolution of young black womanhood as told through the lens of two different perspectives.
Once, in the early aughts, by Mark Seliger, who captured the “girl-power goddesses” on the come up (at the time), wowing Hollywood and making their own way.
Then, most recently by Sophia Wilson, a Black woman photographer and visual artist based in New York City, who made the twenty-five-year-old fulgent model wonder woman Quen Blackwell her muse for her forthcoming Vogue-backed photo book.

Marlon & Shawn Wayans in Christian Dior by John Galliano's "Adiorable" 69 t-shirt, and Juicy Couture's "Dude, Where's my Couture?" tank for White Chicks. (2004)
Marlon Wayans spoke with GQ for their "Iconic Characters" series and discussed the behind-the-scenes process for the film and his disdain for spending hours in hair and makeup for the drag/crossdressing schtick.
He shared that White Chicks 2 had been in development several times before. With the sequel being in Sony's hands for its first attempt in 2009, but that fell through after there was little fanfare behind the project (at the time).
