@SamHulick The advertising fee is mandatory if you gross over $10k. No way to opt out.

@OfSoundnVision Ahh, gotcha. AFAIK the 12-15% advertising fee is opt-in, so not required. But yeah, the collective doubling of fees over 4 yrs is pretty excessive.

What's up with this Etsy strike? Etsy raised its transaction fee from 5% to 6.5% and people are up in arms? 🤔 Considering inflation is out of control, that's not terrible. But maybe I'm missing something.

@SamHulick I’ve been selling on Etsy since 2011.

@SamHulick In the last 4 years of record profits they’ve basically doubled sellers fees, and added a whole slew of other fees as well. It’s not just the 6.5% fee, there’s also listing fees, transaction fees, and advertising fees of 12-15% of every sale as well. All added up 25-30+% per sale

@Ben_Aaronovitch They lose their scholarships unless they have amazing grades and transition to academic scholarships. Rarely happens though. Usually that’s the end of college for them. Also the school usually doesn’t pay the medical bills either. That’s on the individual.

What happens to American students on football scholerships if they suffer a career ending injury. Do they keep the scholership or are they out on their ear?

@TheJulieBenson Right there with you, and I work in a restaurant. I’m one of maybe 3 people there working through the entire pandemic who hasn’t gotten it.

LANDSCAPE SUICIDE (1987). After 15 yrs of academia, I decided to try screenwriting. But I realized that I'd lost touch w/ my reptilian creative brain. So I fed myself a diet of AC/DC, Sons of Anarchy, etc. Upside: I'm now a screenwriter. Downside: I no longer dig shit like this.

On a complete act of random viewing while scrolling Netflix, I stumbled onto the UK sitcom Still Game. It is hands down one of the funniest shows I’ve ever seen, despite needing subtitles to understand their English. Highly recommend it.
