Operation Hammond

If you think your local fire and EMS departments, hospitals, health clinics and Operation Hammond would be the same without transgender folks in the health care workforce, you haven’t been paying attention. After all, marginalized people are often drawn to caring professions.

To our cisgender friends, remember: As trained health and safety volunteers, we in Operation Hammond understand that the simple practice of honoring everyone’s stated name & pronouns is known to reduce suicidal ideation by 14% and suicide attempts by 54% among transgender youth.

Today is Transgender Day of Visibility. To all our trans members, supporters, con family, & anyone else who needs a reminder: We see and love you not only today, but every day of the year. O.H. is, has always been, and will ALWAYS be an inclusive, LGBTQIA+ friendly organization.

However, the grief isn’t all that's still with us. Fedora helped countless people, & inspired others to do the same. We carry that inspiration and those memories with us every day. Fedora’s motto, “The best thing you can do in life is help someone.”, continues to shape lives.

On March 27th, 2019, Operation Hammond’s founder, James “Fedora” Mandeville, unexpectedly passed away. Seven years ago, the world lost a wonderful person. Someone who made it a better place, before leaving it much too soon. That loss is still felt deeply today.

Happy anniversary to us! O.H. was officially founded on March 13th, 2012. Thank you to everyone who’s helped us get here. This includes our event partners, followers on social media, and of course, our members! The past 14 years wouldn’t have been possible without all of you.

Operation Hammond will be providing first aid at Frogfecht in Groton, CT March 7th & 8th. This is Western Swordsmanship Technique and Research’s annual longsword tournament, and we’re excited to be returning for their second year!  (1/2)

Good morning from Helm of the Charles! Operation Hammond is set up and ready for what’s sure to be a great event. We are on-site all weekend providing first aid, and are happy to be part of this event’s inaugural year!

Day 1 of Katsucon was busy. We helped a lot of people with a wide range of issues, made some new friends, & of course, saw plenty of amazing cosplays. We can't wait to see what Day 2 brings! If you need first aid, we are located in Camellia 3 and 4.
