@AGoldmund The word โ€˜transโ€™ doesnโ€™t appear in the article? Itโ€™s about the arc of millennial feminism.

This lady is a nasty transphobe freak and canโ€™t resist doing a drive by on trans kids in this article, so feel free not to read it. Also itโ€™s poorly written.

Iโ€™ve written about the backlash to Adult Braces: โ€œI do feel great sympathy for Lindy West. How was she to know that the great omertร  of Millennial Feminismโ€”that we had to take whatever people said about their life stories at face valueโ€”had broken?โ€

Just imagining the doomsday loop of millions of AI traders, tuned to basically identical data, making the same decisions all at once makes me feel ill

If you didn't catch it on my substack, my essay on desire and politics is now in Geese Magazine!
Geese Magazine๐Ÿชฟ@geesemagazine

Desire is Sacred READ HERE: geesemag.com/articles/desirโ€ฆ Why do people cling so fiercely to fantasies that harm othersโ€”and themselves? In this essay, Allison Keats (@Ord_Snowflake) argues that desire is one of the hidden engines of politics: the promise of love, recognition, and dignity that helps people endure humiliation and exploitation. From the manosphere to everyday anxieties about relationships, Keats argues how reactionary politics feeds on wounded fantasiesโ€”and why socialism must offer a more compelling vision of the good life.

It's not surprising that the same types of men obsessed with generating images to strip and humiliate real women women are also obsessed with generating images of ethereal, celestial ones to fantasize about instead. A madonna/whore complex that doesn't believe madonnas are real

@OgLakyn I think a lot of this is tied up in issues of identity and the self. We used to be more defined by our jobs, our IRL culture/community, which gave us all a baseline sense of who we were and how to dress. We no longer have that stability so we cobble a self together from inspo

I think a lot of us (myself included) found our style by wanting to dress like someone else, I just think it's weird how, like, every month it's a new person and the reason for wanting to dress like them is always so....shallow? Flimsy?

@JayQLyn And your photos turned out beautifully. Worth the cost (to a point) to remember the other stuff you've spent a small fortune on that day

@Ord_Snowflake A good photographer can make a less opulent/aesthetic set up (aka a more affordable one) into a gorgeous story, but then, a good wedding photographer costs a small fortune. Mine has tripled her price since my wedding (and sheโ€™s constantly booked).

The wedding industry is a bloated, lacetrimmed leviathan and we could stand to get back to making weddings about love not opulence. However, keeping romance alive is a storytelling project between two lovers about their relationship, and to this end wedding photos are important
house of A๐ŸŒท@houseofala

I am unfortunately developing a disgust reflex towards weddings & marriage. The diamonds, the humiliation ritual engagement photo sessions, the posed intimacy, the exotic destinations. All for show. To post and to outdo. Love is a costume. The union is not sacred, itโ€™s not the entire purpose; itโ€™s just the consequence of a big aesthetic party

This is exactly what I've been thinking. Their eye is just trained to want to see men's bodies as clearly as possible through their clothes by millennial trends that only ever looked good on very twinky men. Bring back some structure+drape, it adds character!
morgan sung@morgan_sung

the late 20s/early 30s men insisting that the first fit looks better, or responding with versions of the outfit that have slimmer proportions, honestly sound exactly like the millennial women they made fun of a few years ago when skinny jeans went out of style lol

On a related note I recently found out I was confidently butchering a (not terribly long!!) word I didn't slow enough to read correctly so if you heard me do that...no you didn't

Idk I've often found out I'm misusing words because I was basically assuming based on vibes what they meant after reading them many times, and typically when I found this out I didn't feel the need to assure myself it was a special, different kind of understanding to save my ego
Yves เฑจเงŽ@yvessirae

The weird thing about reading so much as a child and gaining a huge vocabulary from that is I can't define a lot of the words I use, I just know that they would fit correctly in a specific sentence. Does anyone else experience that?
