Inmediatamente fue atendido por los médicos del equipo y trasladado en ambulancia a un centro hospitalario de alta complejidad al norte de la ciudad donde fue atendido en Cuidados Intensivos por todos los especialistas del área cardiovascular. A pesar de los esfuerzos médicos, Santiago no logró recuperarse y falleció este domingo en compañía de su familia, compañeros y amigos. Hoy el fútbol se detiene. El corazón azul está roto. Hoy el dolor nos invade, nos llena de impotencia y de tristeza. Con profundo sentimiento despedimos a nuestro número 10, nuestro compañero, nuestro amigo. Santiago no solo jugaba al fútbol.
