Father and Son Fugitives Among Three Arrested in Pretoria Sting Operation After Allegedly Paying R250,000 to Illegally Cross Limpopo River Into Zimbabwe and Go to Europe Three suspects, including a father and son, appeared in the Brooklyn Magistrate’s Court on 15 April 2026 following their arrest in Pretoria. Stellio Gilles Robert Capo Chichi (45), Khonsou Seba Capo Chichi (18), and François van der Merwe face charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and contravention of the Immigration Act. The trio were arrested on 13 April 2026 during an intelligence-driven sting operation at a shopping centre in Brooklyn. The operation was conducted by the Hawks’ Crimes Against the State unit, supported by Tactical Operations Management and Crime Intelligence Counter Terrorism teams based at head office. Authorities said the suspects were allegedly involved in facilitating the illegal movement of the father and son into Zimbabwe through the Limpopo River. It is alleged that approximately R250,000 was paid to assist them, with plans to proceed to Europe. Police confiscated cellphones and about R318,000 during the arrests. Preliminary investigations indicate that Stellio Gilles Robert Capo Chichi is a wanted fugitive in France and Benin for crimes against the state, with Interpol confirming his status in Benin. The case was postponed to 20 April 2026, with the accused remanded in custody and extradition processes underway.
