Spectacular cultural event, complete with naval parade, held in the port city of Massawa in the late afternoon hours today, in commemoration of the 36th Anniversary of Operation Fenkil.

President Isaias Afwerki laid a wreath at Massawa’s Twalet Martyrs Cemetery in the morning hours today in commemoration of Eritrea’s best sons & daughters who paid the ultimate price in the epic Fenkil Operation for the liberation of Massawa.

East Africa Half Marathon Championship held in Massawa this morning as part and parcel of various programmes for the celebration of the 36th Anniversary of Fenkil Operations. In the long-distance road race that fielded 70 athletes from Eritrea, South Sudan, Uganda, and Kenya, Ablelom Tekeste 🇪🇷, clinched Gold Medal; while Abel Teklu🇪🇷, won Silver; and 🇺🇬's Ezkiel Mutai won the Bronze Medal. 10-Km women's road race was won by Rahel Daniel while Tesfahiwot Tecle won Gold Medal in the 5-km para-cycling race.

President Isaias Afwerki met, at the Denden Guest House in the late afternoon hours today, Saudi delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Engineer Waleed Bin Abdulkarim al-Khereiji. President Isaias underlined the importance of further consolidating the historical bilateral ties of friendship and cooperation between Eritrea and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the cultivation of shared and aligned views and positions on vital regional and international issues. The two sides discussed, in greater depth, the role of the littoral States of the Red Sea in guaranteeing the peace and security of the region against the backdrop of fluid regional and international developments and trends. In this context, the two sides decided to expedite the concrete implementation of cooperation agreements in the political, economic, security, cultural and social sectors previously reached between Eritrea and Saudi Arabia.
