My former course mate, before he relocated to Austria, used to earn about ₦3 million monthly by teaching students overseas virtually. Just pick your area of interest within Math, Physics, Chemistry, English or Biology and sign up on platforms like Tuteria or Sabiteach to tutor students from the comfort of your home. Knowledge is one skill I believe can cross borders without a visa.

While both a resume and a CV (Curriculum Vitae) are documents that outline your professional and educational background, they serve different purposes and have distinct formats. Here’s a detailed comparison: 1. Purpose Resume: A concise summary of your skills, experience, and qualifications tailored for a specific job. Designed to quickly demonstrate your suitability to employers. CV (Curriculum Vitae): A comprehensive record of your academic, professional, and research accomplishments. Used mainly in academia, research, scholarships, fellowships, and some international applications. 2. Length Resume: Usually 1–2 pages (sometimes 3 for extensive experience). Focused and selective — only the most relevant information. CV: It can be multiple pages, depending on your experience. Includes all academic and professional achievements, publications, research, and awards. 3. Content Resume typically includes: Contact information Professional summary or objective (optional) Work experience (most relevant roles) Education Skills Certifications (if applicable) CV typically includes: Contact information Education (detailed, including thesis/dissertation) Research experience Publications and presentations Academic honors and awards Teaching experience Professional affiliations and memberships Grants, fellowships, and scholarships 4. Customization Resume: Always customized for the specific job, highlighting skills and experience relevant to the position. CV: Usually static; only minor adjustments are made depending on the application. 5. Geographic Preference Resume: Common in the United States and Canada for most non-academic jobs. CV: Common in Europe, Asia, and Africa for academic, research, and medical positions; in the US, CVs are primarily for academic, research, or fellowship applications. Key Takeaways If you’re applying for a corporate job, go for a resume. If you’re applying for scholarships, academic positions, or research roles, a CV is the standard. A CV is your professional portfolio, while a resume is your highlight reel.

@olumuyiwaayo @Oluwapeluademi In applying for masters to a number of schools, Sir... The maximum no of pages for one's resume is usually capped at 2 pages... Might not be true for all, but it is true for some. Nevertheless, my "She is right" was wrongly definitive and conclusive.

Let me show you a VERY good sample of an email to Professors for someone looking at fully-funded scholarship. After reading, tell me what you learnt. RT and Tag your friends. ................................................................................... Dear Prof. Jasper Julius, I was excited when I came across your research interests on the faculty page of the Chemical Biology department. My excitement stems from the fact that my research and publication experiences both align perfectly with your interests and I knew without a doubt, that joining your lab will be the best thing to ever happen to me, academically and research-wise. My research interest is in developing bioanalytical techniques and chromatographic methods for elucidating biologically important natural products and compounds. My name is Ada Anayo, a Biochemistry graduate with lots of hands-on post graduate experience in Analytical Methods especially chromatographic separations and analysis. One of my research experience was on "GC/MS Characterization and Antimicrobial Analysis of the Methanol Extracts of the Seed and Stem of Annona muricata" where I utilized various chromatographic techniques to separate and characterize the bioactive components of the plant stem and seed extracts. Furthermore, this research resulted in the publication of two papers in a scientific journal of high repute. Also, I had the privilege of interning at both the Pesticide Residue and Mycotoxin/Microbiology Laboratories of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Nigeria. While there, I worked closely with researchers on different foods and other consumables, to ascertain the level of contaminants and their suitability for human consumption. Some of the equipments and techniques that I worked with include LC/MS, GC/MS, GPC, and ELISA. I am wondering if you are accepting graduate students for the Fall 2024academic session and to indicate my interest in joining your team as I prepare to apply to the graduate program in Chemical Biology.I have attached a copy of my CV and academic transcript for your perusal and I'm always available for a virtual chat if you wish to have one scheduled so we can further discuss your current research interests and my suitability for your team. I look forward to your feedback and any advice you may have for me towards a successful application. Kind regards, Ada Anayo.

Professors receive dozens of cold emails weekly. Your subject line is the first filter. Example of s𝘂𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 Most cold emails go unread, not because the professor isn’t open to students, but because the subject line fails. Make it specific, professional, and relevant. Here are examples that professors actually open: ① Clear Research Interest ✅ “Prospective PhD Student Interested in HIV Prevention Research” Never say…. ❌ “PhD Inquiry” ② Referencing a Specific Paper ✅ “Question Regarding Your 2023 Lancet Article on TB Control” ③ Shared Background or Context ✅ “Former WHO Intern Applying to Johns Hopkins PhD Program – Interested in Your Work” ④ Application Timeline ✅ “Prospective PhD Applicant for Fall 2025 – Maternal Health Research” ⑤ Conference or Event Connection ✅ “Follow-Up from Your Keynote at APHA Conference – Global Health Research” —————- 𝗥𝘂𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗯: If your subject line could apply to 20 professors, it’s too vague. Professors open emails that show effort, context, and fit; right from the subject line. 💬 Which subject line style would you be most likely to use? ♻️ Repost to help future scholars stop getting ignored in the inbox.

🎓 PhD funding ≠ luck. It’s strategy. Here’s how I teach my mentees to reverse-engineer it. Too many applicants believe funding is a “bonus” — a matter of GPA, luck, or “impressing the committee.” In reality, funding is predictable once you understand how and why it’s allocated. 🧩 1. Understand the architecture of funding PhD funding rarely comes from a single “pot.” It’s a system with layered incentives and priorities. a. Programmatic funding (Department-level): Departments receive limited institutional funds to recruit candidates who fill research or teaching needs. This is where TA/RA positions and guaranteed stipends come from. → Your SOP should emphasize pedagogical experience (for TA roles) or alignment with departmental research strengths (for RA positions). b. Supervisor-led funding (Grant-based): Individual faculty members often hold PI grants (e.g., NSF, ERC, NIH, Horizon Europe, national research councils). Their continuation depends on deliverables — meaning, they need capable doctoral researchers. → Strategy: Identify supervisors with active grants (within last 3 years) and frame your SOP as value-adding to their funded project goals. c. External or competitive fellowships: These prioritize policy relevance, national interest, or innovation potential. → Example: DAAD values Germany’s research collaboration impact, CSC values national capacity building, ERC prioritizes frontier research. → Strategy: Mirror those values explicitly in your research objectives and societal relevance sections. 🎯 2. Reverse-engineer fit and funding intent Committees aren’t only asking “Can this student succeed?” — they’re asking “Does this project justify investment?” To answer that unspoken question: •Map faculty research clusters and active grants within your target department. •Extract keywords, methods, and problem statements from their current publications. •Position your proposal as a logical continuation or methodological complement. 📌 You don’t chase funding; you position yourself as part of a funded ecosystem. 🧠 3. Design your SOP like a micro-grant proposal Strong SOPs follow the same logic as funded research proposals: Section 1: Problem & Gap — Identify a concrete, literature-backed research problem. Section 2: Prior Experience — Demonstrate your technical and conceptual readiness. Section 3: Proposed Direction — State a feasible, clearly scoped research plan aligned with program capacity. Section 4: Funding Logic — Implicitly show that your work advances ongoing or fundable research priorities. 💡 Committees fund clarity and feasibility, not potential alone. ⚙️ 4. Build evidence of fundability Funding decisions often rest on a “risk–reward” assessment. You can shift it in your favor by offering low-risk, high-return signals: •Quantitative outputs: preprints, co-authorships, technical certifications. •Applied impact: datasets, code, prototypes, or preliminary results. •Collaborative readiness: prior interdisciplinary work or joint projects. Every artifact you provide reduces uncertainty and increases funding confidence. 🔍 PhD funding is not a lottery — it’s a signal problem. The clearer you make your alignment with the system’s research, financial, and strategic goals, the easier it becomes to fund you. 💬 DM me STRATEGY if you want my Funding Logic Framework and work with me. 🚀
