The Pittsburgh workforce and the agencies that support it received quite a treat this Halloween with the announcement of further investment by @WhiteHouse, state, local and city government, public and private organizations. The expansion of the Pittsburgh Workforce Hub will spark the creation of Pre-apprenticeship programs, particularly in the construction industry, that will benefit all workers in the region, with a focus on disadvantaged workers who face barriers to gaining financial freedom due to socioeconomic and other factors. The announcement, made by Deputy Mayor Jake Pawlak and U.S. Deputy Secretary of Labor Julie Su (@USDOL) in HACP’s Skyline Terrace community room in the Hill District, includes the HACP’s collaboration with The City of @Pittsburgh, @MayorEdGainey, and @urapgh in an expansion of regional workforce that includes equity contracting program requirements, prevailing wages, and apprenticeship programs in the construction industry. The agreement is expected to rollout in the spring 2025 construction season. The HACP is also excited to partner with @CCAC, @MBAofWPA, First National Bank, and other organizations to launch the Workforce on Wheels CyberBus 2.0 in 2025. This project will bring critical workforce training and programs to residents’ doorsteps. "Team Pittsburgh, this is a big deal! We’re going to invest in the next generation, and HACP will have housing for them," Caster D. Binion, HACP Executive Director, said. Mr. Binion noted the ongoing redevelopment of HACP communities, such as the 834-unit new Bedford Dwellings in the Hill District. "We need this expanded workforce. The future of Pittsburgh is big!" he exclaimed. Thursday’s event also announced the creation of the Pittsburgh Prosperity Project that will coordinate a network of philanthropic organizations to address the needs of disadvantaged workers in the region. @PghWorkforce, the anchor institution in these projects, will also expand its workforce development programming with pre-apprenticeship programs leading to paid job opportunities. “We invest in America by investing in all communities,” Su said. "More than $2.3 billion has been invested in Pittsburgh alone. These are not just investments in things; they are investments in people. This is a vision of opportunity for all.” Lloyd C. Wilson Jr., HACP’s Resident Employment Program Manager/Section 3 Coordinator said, "Today’s announcement is exciting and will open up opportunities for those who have been at a disadvantage. These jobs will provide income for their families and future generations, and is an opportunity for the Hill District as a whole.” @CLPHA / @NAHRO / @EASCarpenters / @HeinzEndow
