I never thought I’d be writing this tweet. I was laid off. For most people that’s a scary moment. For me, it’s a countdown. I’m on a visa. No job means out of status. Out of status means leaving. Leaving means saying goodbye to years of my life, the friends I’ve made, the work I’ve poured myself into, the future I came here to build. And right now, with everything happening around immigration, that goodbye feels closer than ever. I have a CS PhD and have spent years working on AI, ML, deep learning, and computer vision. I’m open to full-time roles, internships, PhD positions, or postdocs. I’ve never asked the internet for help before. I’m asking now. Every time I watch Álvarez, he leaves me confused. With each performance, it becomes clearer how brilliant he is as a footballer, but at the same time, it also shows that he’s better suited to playing as a number 10 or a second striker rather than as a lone striker. That’s the dilemma, because it’s not really the profile Flick needs. But at the same time, the striker market is so dry right now that there aren’t many options who perfectly fit that role either. So it puts you in a very strange situation: do you go for a player of Álvarez’s quality, even if he’s not the ideal profile, or do you wait for a better fit that might not even be available?

It is a good idea and something we may consider. In the meantime, I advise graduate students to apply for the @SeyiOfoundation scholarships. They are legit and some MT Scholars (and non MT Scholars) have benefitted in the past. They give $5K grants and $1K grants which go a long way for students.
