UPDATE: WAL-MART CLEARED The Wheeling Police Department has concluded its investigation at Wal-Mart. The store has been authorized to reopen. The investigation into the origin of the threat remains ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact us.

The Wheeling Police Department is currently on scene at the Wal-Mart located at 1455 Lake Cook Rd. following a reported threat. Out of an abundance of caution the store has been evacuated. The public is asked to avoid the area at this time to allow officers to work safely.

We were assisting the Illinois State Police at Walmart. This was part of a pre-planned arrest operation, and the presence of officers was NOT RELATED TO IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT.   As this is an active investigation, no additional information will be provided.

Happy School Resource Officer Appreciation Day! Today we proudly recognize Officers Smolarczyk and Courtney at High School District 214, and Officers Czapla and Bahena at CCSD21. These incredible School Resource Officers help keep our schools safe. Thank you for all you do!

This week the Wheeling FD hosted the MABAS 1, 4, & 5 Hazardous Materials Team Training in a vacant warehouse. Crews worked on leak containment, spill control, and chlorine leaks. We were able to utilize our drone and assisted team members with their drill. #teamworkinaction

On Saturday, we participated in our annual Shop With a Cop event. Officers partnered with local children to help them choose gifts for their families. A special thank you to Wheeling Helping Hands, the Korean American Friendship Network, @Walmart , and all of our volunteers!
