We need to talk about recruitment to primary ITT. This year so far numbers are down 19% on the same time last year 😱 Last year primary did not meet its recruitment target, and is on track to reach around 75% of last year's target by year end

🚨Recruitment to primary initial teacher training courses have fallen by almost a fifth year-on-year in what expert @JackWorthNFER has called a “worrying” trend... In April 2023, there were 6,527 “placed” ITT applicants on primary courses, down from 8,100 in April 2022.

@CensoredHead Depends on the purpose of the observation. We regularly observe our trainees, but they are formative + we only focus on 2 things(max) that they have already been coached on. Feedback is just on those 2 areas and what to focus on next to get even better.

Why do people still insist on doing formal observations? They are not useful in my opinion. You do not see the real teacher, you put pressure on the team and unless the feedback is given correctly (which it often isn't) actually have no impact on improving teaching.
