Judge's hands were tied by law. The Marital Rape Exception in the new BNS allows husbands to insert objects & body parts in wife's orifices without her consent, & it's not rape. Law cd have been changed in new BNS...it was't. Our civil appeal to remove this MRE is in SC.

In my understanding based on reading a lot of rape judgements, the "ideal" victim is often dead. But apparently even death does not elevate a wife to that position if the rapist happens to be her husband.
Rituparna Chatterjee@MasalaBai

Just fyi: The wife died after "unnatural" (anal) sex. She had peritonitis and rectal perforation. But because marital rape is not punishable by law in India, High Court judgment now leaves "unnatural" sex out of ambit of punishment also. Have no words for how sick this is.

The contemporary landscape of so-called "Chapari" YouTube content has, rather regrettably, ascended to unprecedented levels of viewership—not due to any inherent intellectual merit, mind you, but rather owing to the sheer abundance of individuals whose cognitive faculties appear to be, shall we say, on an extended sabbatical. These digital echo chambers, brimming with superficial drivel, have somehow managed to masquerade as the venerated voices of the youth, a development as perplexing as it is lamentable. Even more astoundingly, the siren song of numerical validation has enticed political leaders and celebrities into gracing these intellectual wastelands, bestowing upon them an air of legitimacy they most assuredly do not deserve. One can only marvel at the tragicomedy of our times, where virality trumps veracity and mediocrity is mistaken for influence.

When Ahlia Kattan worked as a doctor in Gaza, every child she spent time with lacked emotional and physical security. “It was very obvious to us from the way they clung to us and asked us to take them home in our suitcases,” she says. Read: nyti.ms/3zUzHWY

Put yourself in the shoes of an elderly person who has not received her pension for months, goes to the bank, learns that her Aadhaar-linked account has been “de-seeded”, and receives these Kafkaesque guidelines. Mind-boggling!

real indepdence will happen on the day when workplaces are made safe; when men and women dont have to protest on the streets to demand safety in hospitals or sports arenas or movie sets

it is india's independence day. as a woman, as an educator and as a connsious citizen, there seems nothing celebratory about a day which awakens to protests for a young woman brutalised at her workplace. #JusticeForMoumita #kolkatahorror

Are Indian women aware of their rights? Not much, judging from the high proportion who approve of at least one among various reasons for wife-beating. Disturbing! (Source: NFHS-5)

Seeing women represented and in fact over-represented in these panels again highlights how women’s role – from voters to reporters – was critical in this election. We needed more women in the professional spaces to occupy these risky corners

Excellent coverage of one of the biggest shows of earth!    Back in school we learnt that independent journalism is the fourth pillar of democracy. Such independence takes a whole lot of courage and a little less desire to be “successful” as per the traditional definitions.
