@harvey_newcomb But that doesn't explain why it has happened for almost 30 years now. Other Redbird teams had perfect roster construction (see '08 and '17) and still couldn't get it done. I think we're getting close to supernatural/curse territory.

@harvey_newcomb That explains this year. Johnny took a step back because the team needed him to distribute instead of score. He's the best player, and the team put him where they needed him to be, but that's not his strongest game. He needs to score more and distribute less.

Jankovich, Muller, and Pedon were/are all great recruiters. There's been a lot of great talent in CEFCU/RBA for 20 years. None of them could win at Arch. What's happening here? What are the Birds missing? Is it just an illogically enormous amount of bad luck?

I received an automatic "Out of Office" reply from a third-year associate. It said she was "unavailable" for the weekend due to a family reunion. I was confused. I thought she worked for me, not the post office. I called her personal cell immediately. She didn't answer. So I called her parents' landline. I found the number in her background check file. Her mother answered. I told her it was an emergency regarding her daughter's future. The associate called me back three minutes later, breathless. She asked if she was fired. I said no, just missing in action. She spent the reunion refreshing her inbox every 30 seconds. Availability isn't a setting in Outlook. It's a lifestyle choice.

If you haven’t created a mid-major conference tournament whiteboard that informs your office of Georgia Southern’s five wins in five days, don’t bother talking to me about March Madness next week.

September 11... Katrina... '08 financial crisis... Events since the last tournament appearance are now taught in K-12 history classes.

It happened again last night. Southern Miss beat Appy State and Georgia Southern beat Coastal. The 3 and 4 seeds were also one-and-done.

In short, I get that the losses really hurt today for fans of the Birds, Bruins, and Racers, but a stepladder tournament is not the magic wand for your problems. There's plenty of blame to go around before you start tossing any toward the tournament format.

4) Conferences that have switched to stepladder format struggle in both arena attendance and home viewership. This isn't rocket science. Yesterday the Enterprise Center had fans from 8 teams in it thanks to hosting 4 games. Standard format gives a gate advantage.
