Lore Bit - Couriers
Information is key to any functional civilization and the galaxy of Flamesail is no different. However, due to the nature of the Cyber Abyss, transmissions cannot be made directly through. Any attempts to do so have ended with the signal simply being lost to the Abyss. Thus arose the need and use for dedicated Information Runners and Couriers.
Couriers technically differ from Information-Runners in that they run civilian information whilst Info-Runners take military orders, but "Couriers" is generally the catch-all for both. Both are also similar in that they utilize similar aircraft, designed for ultra-long range and speed, able to comfortably cruise at their top ends even within the environs of the Cyber Abyss.
Routes usually hop from planet to planet within a general area of the galaxy, with each stop being both a refuel and exchange of data. This data is held within physical drives and stored on special racks within the courier's aircraft, which can be removed either to access specific drives or to ship to a distribution center. From that center, planet-specific couriers will disseminate the data drives to regional and local pickup zones. While in transit, couriers often scratch or mark up racks to say they've been there, and it is not uncommon for data racks to accumulate dozens of scratched in initials or blurbs.
The profession is not without risks, as couriers are at risk of both Reflicates and pirates looking to sell data for a heavy ransom. Courier aircraft are only lightly armed if at all, and rely on both government patrols and their own craft's performance to make escapes from threats. As such, professional couriers are often paid handsomely to fly swift and dangerous routes. Professional couriers are some of the best pilots out in the galaxy, and surprisingly usually treat courier service as a moonlight gig; with their primary jobs being as fighter jockeys.
If they aren't already fighter pilots, then it usually isn't long before governments make the rounds through the courier ranks and offer the best flyers crosstraining for fighters. One particularly notable example of such was Cenes-Mars and her twin sister, who went from courier service to the top of their class flying the experimental FAERY-400 Phynex hyperfighters for TAURASC.

A small, agile fightercraft with enormous amounts of thrust. Designed to carry heavy amounts of anti-air ordnance and operate out of anywhere that has a strip of asphalt. To achieve such, it gives up armor and anti-ground capabilities.
Deploy Cost: 12000 RP
Unit Type: Jet
Movement Type: Air
Movement Range: 10
Fuel: 40
Daily Fuel Cost: 5
Vision: 3
Ability: STOL
“Short Take-Off and Landing”
Gains the end-of-turn Action of “Land”, which allows the Interceptor to land on any Road tile and not consume fuel during the next Upkeep Phase. If the Interceptor has not moved after Landing, it is still considered landed and can be resupplied by ground units such as an APC.
Weapon 1: Guided Missiles
Ammo: 2
Range: 3
Targets:
-Helos (very strong)
-Jets (very strong)
-Flamesails (neutral)
Weapon 2: Autocannons
Ammo: Unlimited

Targets:
-Helos* (strong)
-Jets* (strong)

"So we're going slash bombing."
<>
-Capt. Chris Robinson III, and his WSO, Lt. Comet-Xysteele
A space equivalent of the old earth tactic of dive bombing, slash bombing comprises of rocketing full tilt toward an enemy vessel and releasing payloads at speed before zipping past the target.
Payloads usually consist of bombs, both the guided and unguided variety, and both usually with pulse brakes. Torpedoes and rockets can be used in variations where the bombers break off early and "toss" the weaponry in. Limited variations with experimental weaponry exist, such as carving a path through the enemy vessel with a Thunder Sword.
Old interceptors often find themselves in the slash bomber role, simply trading anti-air weaponry for anti-ship. Their speed is what makes them excellent for the task, as heavy maneuvering is not required, just straight-line speed.
Slash bombers by themselves are quite vulnerable to counterattack, so they are often used in tandem with other units, with allies providing a distraction while the slash bombers get their attack run going. Escape is almost never an issue on a successful run, the built-up speed meaning that they are far out of range by the time enemy systems get a targeting solution together, if the slash hasn't outright crippled or destroyed them.
Here in the attached image, a trio of TAURASC F/A-44 Starbinders perform a slash bombing run on a NORN Necrosail frigate, destroying it.

Lore Bit - Necrosails
A derivative of standard Flamesails, Necrosails are a specialty of NORN, and comprise the vast bulk of their navy. Harvested from the megafauna on NORN's multiple water worlds, Necrosails are constructed inside and around the bodies of the colossal creatures.
The advantages are twofold, manifesting as reduced material costs and vastly reduced crew complements. The crew in particular are reduced to a skeleton crew to guide the warship, with all other functions handled by the creature's brain.
With NORN's enormous capital of Lancieres, some question why the need to reduce crew complement. However, given NORN's proclivity for harvesting their own citizens for raw material and focus on swarm tactics, reducing needs for warship crew falls in line perfectly with their known fleet doctrine.
As for material needs, the bulk of processed ores go toward the Empress's main project of the multiple Mobile Bases, especially Mobile Thronebase Laevateinn. While the rest of the navy does not get an insignificant amount of material, the reduced costs of putting out a warship are a major bonus in the eyes of NORN's leadership.
While combat capabilities are not as suited for long duration slugging matches or heavy brawls, Necrosails fit in perfectly as enforcers of NORN's will, and especially suited for the hit-and-run tactics that define the nomadic empire.
