@jessesingal More relevant now that they are even discussing limiting citizenship for arab-palestinian israeli citizens, begging the question (again) much like we are here with naturalized citizens or anchor babies. So kinda on point, and kinda not.

If you're this mad about Israel you should at least familiarize yourself with the *basics*. This isn't a new question or a gotcha! It's in fact been discussed and debated at great length for many many many many many many many years.

@granitegauge @JacobAShell sorry i meant printers in general where they charge a monthly or per "sheet" price that is grossly overpriced versus them just buying outright and paying for supplies themselves, even with a service contract. Ricoh's are awesome, better than HPs from back in the day imo.

@ProtestBusters @JacobAShell I use this same Ricoh, the drivers are a trip, but we put a ream or more through it daily, and it staples/hole punches for you. At a ream per day, that's light work, it needs to print over 100 pages to reach operating temperature, and it only needs service quarterly. Don't hate.

One thing I've noticed doing college instruction in era when AI has become so good that it breaks the concept of most take-home assignments is that in-class paper testing has suddenly become much more important, and this in turn makes the *printers* much more important than they were during peak digital/COVID/Zoom era, or even than during the early 2010s. But despite this new dynamic, the printer room is still getting a crappy shoestring budget premised on conditions which no longer exist. The bureaucracy still instinctively thinks of "printers" as cobwebby old technology which is, surely, in the process of being sunsetted and doesn't deserve to have frequent maintenance and dedicated staff. The bureaucracy is not digesting the fact that the printers are so important now, that it might as well be 1995 again. Plenty of money for vague "AI readiness" is sloshing about (new vice deanlet positions! conferences!! committees!!!), but not getting spent on tangeable things like this.

@TheEasyPath @nikitabier @EFF yep, pretty much. you have to at minimum get a blue check, then pay for premium, and hope that no one files anything on you in the mean time, and/or don't piss anyone off. and then you still really need an "in" to go viral. algorithms changed to basically the same 200 ppl

They are right. This platform sucks. The number of followers is irrelevant when you can't even get views. I get anywhere from 100-1000x more views on YouTube, TikTok and Instagram relative to my number of followers. I'm only here to comment not share content and build a following.

@SonnieJohnson People with actual tactics don't advertise what they've done, and it's not commonly covered in the media (due to promoting copycats) so you don't heart about it, but it's done far more often fyi. be happy the guy was an idiot rather than the smarter ones

@AdamThierer and for the average user to have any traction you need a blue check (give up id info to a shady israeli company) and need to pay for premium, and stay "good" as in not have any reports made on you, which is easy to do by competitors or any random crazy you tick off.

@AdamThierer Their blog post makes more sense, impressions and X in general have gone down for everyone these past few years, blue check or not, premium or not. They are censoring / controlling things on the back end somehow, it's pretty obvious if you have a few x accounts and what's infeed

What a bunch of sanctimonious silliness from EFF. Bolting this site while staying on Facebook and TikTok and then declaring that, “the people there deserve access to info” (but apparently don't here!) takes some real chutzpah. And what the hell does this line even mean?... “When you go online, your rights should go with you. X is no longer where the fight is happening.” Huh? 🤡🤡🤡
EFF@EFF

After almost twenty years on the platform, EFF is logging off of X. This isn’t a decision we made lightly, but it might be overdue. 🧵(1/5)

@BlueyAnon @LundukeJournal @EFF @X i'd suggest folks read the blog post though, they are 1000% right about x's impressions being out of wack, and only about 150 personalities being pushed now. to have any traction you basically have to b a blue check, pay for premium and hope that no one falsely reports you etc

@BlueyAnon @LundukeJournal @EFF @X Holy shit did they 4x it these past five years or so? They used to have less than ten on that page, if that. They're probably going the route of the ACLU has gone.

The @EFF has announced that they are leaving @X. But they will continue to use TikTok, BlueSky, Mastodon, Facebook, YouTube, & Instagram. Why? Something about “Young people, people of color, queer folks, activists, and organizers.” Oh, and funding abortions. Seriously. Abortions. The “Electronic Frontier Foundation” (founded to educate law enforcement and politicians on how computers work), is leaving X, but staying on TikTok. Because of “abortions” and “queer folk”. As a wise man once said, “That virtue ain’t gonna signal itself.”

@curtis_yarvin x's impressions are extremely out of wack though, to have any impact you have to basically become verified and pay for a premium tier, and then get viral - all the while hoping not to get falsely reported, which resets the clock for a few months.

@JMGreerWriter how many of these commenters have read anything past the manifesto, which is garbage? it's attractive because the owners steal from the laborers, and in many circumstances they steal too much. (of their labor) it's that simple. u guys should really try reading sometime

The reason Marx is popular with so many intellectuals is that it’s such a middle class wet dream. Despite all the chatter about the triumph of the proletariat, Marxism in practice always puts some set of dissident intellectuals in power, and so intellectuals who crave unearned power are drawn to it.

@zquestz @EFF anyone know why they quadripled the staff in recent years? they were tiny - like less than 12 a decade ago. now it's what like at least 50-60? they're going the ACLU route basically -

I used to be a huge @EFF supporter, but they have changed dramatically over the years. Now they are leaving X, the primary place I would see their content, in order to support networks that are much smaller and complete ghost towns when I try to use them. Not only that, but I cared about the EFF to protect tech freedom. To make sure the Internet was a more private and safer place. Not to tackle every social issue under the sun. I miss the old EFF that I supported every year at Defcon. Who is going to pick up that mantle? Who is going to focus on current tech legislation, privacy and security? We need it now more than ever.
EFF@EFF

When you go online, your rights should go with you. X is no longer where the fight is happening. EFF takes on big fights, and we win by putting our time, skills, and members’ support where they will have the most impact. Right now, that means Bluesky, Mastodon, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, and eff.org. We hope you follow us there and keep supporting the work we do. eff.org/deeplinks/2026… (5/5)

@ZaidJilani Zaid has a point here, however I knew a hairdresser who became fully pre-pay before service because of the amount of recent arrivals who either wouldn't pay and just walk out, or tried to haggle down after the fact, even though prices were clearly displayed. off the mark - abit

@MattBruenig Probably because a stillbirth is a net benefit to the child, given how bad life is in Finland. (moderately joking here, look at the suicide rate, particularly season depression)

@annbauerwriter I'd highly suggest anyone to look at Boox, or to a lesser degree the remarkable series. Boox is basically an eink android with all the apps you can run, many even have cameras and are everything minus having a cell modem. all open sourced mostly.

@walterkirn any nurse in the usa can look up walter kim's medical record and print it out, fyi if they're in the same EMR system. there are 3 primary ones, and most are in epic. this is why celebs get care under pseudynames now, and hire folks like me to help them anonymize their lives.

@TechloreInc I'm more concerned they are just hiding the spying parts underneath another layer that's not as easily found. Granted everyone should be firewalling the hell out of win11 (or do what i do - just run vm's on it for most things in fusion mode) but most don't. wecanthankapple4this
