As an English-speaking Quebecer (100% bilingual), I agree. There shouldโ€™ve been a statement in French as well as English, especially given one of the pilots was French. I donโ€™t expect my opinion to be the norm West of Ottawa. That said, the guy shouldnโ€™t lose his job or feel he needs to resign over it.

@kpac_15 @nxd1979 Are you telling me the fucking Air Canada ceo was the best and brightest? AC did terrible under him; he was about to go regardless. For someone who doesn't give a shit, you sure are vocal about how french should be removed from Canada's official languages. Touch some grass.

@kpac_15 @nxd1979 Fun fact, 60% of that 18% bilingual Canadians are french Quebecois who had to learn English to work in this country. Give me a break, English is not under assault or more of you guys would be bilingual. We're just asking for some basic respect of our official language.

There is nothing progressive about this. The way Canada acts often has more in common with an extremist religious state than a highly progressive one. Being progressive has less to do with the values that you hold, and more about how you hold them. Dogmatic black and white values, rites and rituals = regressive Focus on continually better outcomes = progressive Air Canada should focus on making less accidents happen. A CEO change over a language issue is probably going to slow that down. It could take a year to find another competent CEO to lead the organization, delaying how quickly the real issues get fixed. This is a religious, dogmatic decision that is more about โ€œheresyโ€ than pragmatic changes.

@mobinfiltrator Brother, no one whines when the premier of Alberta, BC, or Saskatchewan communicate only in English. English is those province's official language. One of the pilot was a french Quebecois; the minimum AC can do is get a fucking statement translated. Principles, not politics.

@QcPamplemousse If itโ€™s unacceptable to offer condolences in one language during a national tragedy, then that standard applies to everyone, not just CEOs. You donโ€™t get to call out exclusion in English and then practice it in French. Thatโ€™s not principle, itโ€™s politics. #cdnpoli

@QcPamplemousse I wouldn't know I've never eaten any. You're meant to draw with them, but I'd recommend Tombow brushpens.
