@ttmygh Grant @ttmygh is back to shorting Tesla. I remember back in 2019 when he said it was headed to zero. You’re -2’200% offsides mate. Have some humility

Dubai-based architecture firm Znera has imagined a new "strategic waterway" for the United Arab Emirates that would circumvent the Strait of Hormuz. According to Znera, the 'Strait of Union' maritime corridor would form a "national spine" enabling trade resilience, economic diversification and the emergence of new urban areas along its path. Commenting on its concept, Znera said: "In an increasingly complex global landscape, the question is no longer just about growth, but about control, continuity, and long-term positioning. At ZNERA, we believe design has a role to play at this scale – contributing to conversations that shape not just cities, but the future direction of nations." 📷 Znera

A quick count, these countries are at war: Russia / Ukraine / Israel / USA / Iran / Lebanon / Pakistan / Afghanistan / maybe others (Yemen / UAE / Iraq …) At which point do we start calling it “World War III” ?

Are we fucked ?
Arnaud Bertrand@RnaudBertrand

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if infrastructure like this 👇 gets blown up, as of this moment it will take at least a decade to recover from this war - and the truth is that the world's energy picture is probably changed forever. This single facility 👇produced roughly 20% of global LNG supply (aljazeera.com/news/2026/3/18…) and, as of 2011, had taken $70 billion to build (energyintel.com/0000017b-a7be-…). What makes this even worse is that Iran's strike on this was retaliation after Israel attacked their South Pars gas field which draws from the same natural gas reservoir, which is the world's largest by far (9,700 km² - about the size of Qatar itself). Heck, on the list of the 25 largest natural gas fields (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_n…) this single reservoir holds roughly 40% of their combined recoverable reserves - and is nearly 6 times bigger than the 2nd biggest field in the world. And, unlike many of the others on the list, it's only at 10% depletion (meaning 90% of the gas is still there). Which means that, probably for many years, a huge share of the gas from the world's largest reservoir simply won't be extractable, as infrastructure on both sides - Qatar's and Iran's - has now been blown up. From a global energy supply perspective, we're deep into worst-case scenario territory.

*DUBAI TEMPORARILY SUSPENDS FLIGHTS AT INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT For years, Dubai, the UAE and Qatar have presented themselves as bulletproof tax havens and sanctuaries for the global elite. Just four years ago, Qatar hosted the 2022 World Cup, signaling the region's arrival as the world’s playground. Today, the reality has shifted. These past two weeks have severely tested that reputation. For the ultra-wealthy, 0% tax means little if physical safety is at risk. The reputational damage may be permanent if the elite begin to rethink living or visiting there for good.

Switzerland had referendums today and one sought to curtail state resources to Swiss television. It lost. To illustrate, the French tv channel has 7 weather presenters forecasting twice per day for 5 minutes. 7 stars/ 10 minutes/7 days at an average salary of CHF 110k/yr. What nation has 7 presenters talking weather at one network? You’d expect voters to say they have enough resources but nope not here

Can’t be any better 2.4 years further into the Ukraine War. Add combat missions Absolute Resolve (Venezuela) & Midnight Hammer (Iran) these stockpiles are at mission critical. CSIS hasn’t updated data. If Iran is stashing away weapons, US shortages could become an issue as things stall out.
David Sacks@DavidSacks

Even if the Ukraine War ended tomorrow, it would take over 5 years to replenish our stockpiles of artillery shells, Javelins and Stingers. But Biden sees no tradeoffs between helping Ukraine and Israel. And he wants to rattle the saber against China while he’s at it.

Good Morning from Germany, where retirees face one of Europe’s widest pension gaps. The avg annual public pension (€19,138) falls far short of estimated living costs for over-60s (€28,663) – a 33% shortfall, one of the highest in Europe. Housing is the key driver: 34% of senior spending goes to rent, and ~60% of Germans >65 are tenants; leaving many exposed to rising rents, unlike homeowners in Eastern Europe where property acts as an “invisible second pension.”

Bitcoin has competed a roundtrip from its latest halving price of 19/20 April 2024 (63,762). If this is a 5th Bitcoin Winter (defined by 75% drawdowns), then BTC still has another 50% downside to go. On the other hand, Winters relate to existential issues and we're past that.

In almost 30 years of living in and around Death Valley I have never seen the calthaleaf phacelia this dense and abundant, coating the barren rock hills with purple. They are having a banner year in this hyperarid part of the Mojave Desert. Photo 🧵🪻

Bitcoin Cash (BCH) forked from core Bitcoin (BTC) in 2017. Almost failing initially, BCH has now doubled vs BTC the past 12 months. Might be because BCH developers are implementing upgrades to thwart the quantum computing threat while BTC developers remain largely in denial.

Gets bigger. Not just 750. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was listed as one of 31 UN-linked entities from which the US says it'll withdrawal funding. UNFCCC's website links to +2000 NGOs & spreads out like a web. What's the plan Geneva?
Rich Kleinbauer@RMKOutFront

The Geneva economy is going to get crushed. It has 750 international NGOs, excluding UN-related ones, and the US state department just announced it will circumvent the use of these “middlemen” and fund the causes directly.
