In the defense's closing argument, attorney Wendy Lewis sought to paint Richins as a grieving widow whose 'world collapsed' when her husband died - but was the victim of a vendetta by Eric's family and a sloppy police investigation.

In closing arguments today, Summit County Prosecutor Brad Bloodworth described Richins as a ‘black widow’ who was motivated by money and an affair to murder her husband - then went to great lengths to cover it up.

The state rested today following testimony from its final witness, lead investigator Det Jeff O’Driscoll. The defense grilled him under cross-examination about text message evidence, Eric's trust and the Valentine’s Day incident.

Kouri Richins’s defense has rested without calling any witnesses in her murder trial. Kouri is accused of murdering her husband Eric Richins with a fentanyl-laced Moscow Mule cocktail in 2022.

Prosecutors have alleged the letter - to Kouri’s mom - was her attempt to coach her family what to testify in the case. The defense alleged it was part of a fiction book she was writing.

The letter was found in a book inside Richins’s jail cell in September 2023. In it, she claims that Eric told her brother Ronny that he would buy fentanyl from Mexico - and that Ronny would need to testify to that.

Today is day 12 of Kouri Richins's murder trial. Court ended early yesterday as the prosecution and defense disagreed over the admission of police interviews with Carmen Lauber when she was in jail. Lauber has testified that she supplied Kouri with the fentanyl that killed Eric.

Now, Todd Gabler has taken the stand. Gabler was hired by Eric's family as a private investigator following his death.

Under cross-examination, Det Woody was asked about cases in the area where people had been charged with selling marijuana laced with fentanyl.
